SUMMER 2020

GETTING READY FOR SUMMER PD

A Summer Unlike Any Other to Follow a Spring Like Any Other!

Region 17 will be hosting all of our June professional development sessions with remote learning opportunities. Some sessions will be self-paced in Canvas. Some will be live zoom meetings. Some will be a combination of the two. Click on the image of the flyer below to gain access to registration links for the summer offerings. More will be added as the summer progresses, so I will send an update once all of the presenters have finalized the changes to their workshops.

The two in-person sessions in July presented by the Medal of Honor Character Education group are still TBD!!!

Be sure to read the information in the Law-Related Education info box!!!!!

Just In-Project Geography is Back! Click on the link!

During this workshop, teachers will have the opportunity to become familiar with existing free online video modules in geography. We will specifically view a module called, “Water: Too Much, Too Little”, focused around hurricanes and droughts.

Region 17's Historically Speaking Weekly Summer Hours

Every Thursday, 1:00-3:00 in June and July, join us for a time to talk about all things social studies! Each week we will discuss ways to plan for upcoming instruction, learn new technology pieces, and new resources to prepare for next year.

LAW-RELATED EDUCATION VIRTUAL SUMMER INFORMATION

One bit of good news for the summer is the announcement about a change to the Law-Related Education summer workshops. Due to the need for remote learning, LRE has decided to put all of their workshops on virtually!!! Region 17 was scheduled to host only three workshops- Lone Star Government (4/7 grade teachers) Government Update (US History/Gov teachers), and Book It (for elementary teachers). But now, you will be able to attend any or all of the LRE workshops this summer- eight in total!

REGISTRATION ON THE LRE WEBSITE STARTS JUNE 1, 2020 AND WILL RUN UP UNTIL THE DATE OF THE WORKSHOP CHOSEN. YOU WILL NEED TO REGISTER FIRST THROUGH LRE, AND THEN COME REGISTER ON OUR ESC WORKS. ( this way, all your hours can still be housed digitally through your account at ESC 17)

So mark your calendars for June 1 to reserve your spot for the workshop. If you have already registered with us (through ESCWorks) you will still need to register through LRE to attend the workshop! I will send out a reminder on May 31!!!!!
