Providing Fresh Drinking Water
For Third-World Countries
Why is this a Problem?
According to dosomething.org:
884 million people in the world lack access to safe water supplies
3.5 million people die each year from water related diseases
In developing countries women and girls walk on average 3.5 miles per day to fetch water. This means they spend 15 hours a week gathering water.

How do we create clean water?
Cdc.gov says a common method to rid the water of disease-causing agents and provide safe drinking water includes:
Coagulation and Flocculation: This is the first step to clean water, chemicals are put in the water to neutralize the negative charge of dirt and other bad bacteria particles. The chemical bonds with the particles to create floc.
Sedimentation: This is when the floc settles down to the bottom of the water supply due to it’s weight.
Filtration: Now that all the floc has settled down to the bottom it can be filtered out. Common methods are with gravel, charcoal, and sand.
Disinfection: When the all the floc is filtered out a disinfectant is added to the water to kill all the remaining bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

Ceramic Water Filter
They are made from fired
clay. The tiny pores of the ceramic
material make it possible to remove small
particles from the water, like bacteria
viruses and parasites.
