Fall Assessment Information
We are in the middle of fall assessments. These assessments help our teachers plan instruction that will meet your child where he/she is and move your child forward. Students in grades 2 - 5 will be taking Scantron Global Scholar. The initial testing sessions for reading, math, and science(5th only) will be set at 60 minutes. Students who do not finish in that time will be allowed additional opportunities to finish their tests. Not finishing in 60 minutes just means your child is being very diligent and may be getting harder questions that take more thought and time.
You can help by making sure your students are here and on time on their assigned testing day (and every other day, too). They will need earphones/earbuds for the math portion of the test, so make sure to send those. Students will use their Chromebooks, so these need to be brought to school fully charged each day.
Testing Schedule:
K - 1st - ongoing assessments in their classrooms
4th Grade: August 28 - 29
3rd Grade: August 28-29
2nd Grade: September 4 - 5
Thanks for your part in helping us gather this important data as we start the school year.

Memorial Gift Opportunity for Ms. Morgan
If you would like to make a memorial gift in her memory, the PTA has opened a special account at the Greystone Branch of Regions Bank. The account is called the "Teacher Memorial Account - Greystone" The last four digits of the account will be needed at the time of donation: 8491. The Greystone Faculty and Staff, as well as the Greystone PTA, will work together to determine how to use these funds to leave a lasting memory of Mrs. Morgan at Greystone.

Meet Your PTA: Michelle Olson
My name is Michelle Olson and I am your PTA Vice President of Leadership. I have 3 little boys that attend Greystone Elementary. Parker is in 2nd grade in Mrs. Langer’s class and Cole & Mason are in kindergarten in Mrs. Goodwin’s class. My husband, Keith, and I own 2 pet-related businesses. We have been back in Birmingham for 4 years now and we love everything about GSES!
As VP of Leadership for the PTA this year, I will shadow the President closely to prepare for taking over that role the following school year. I attend all PTA related meetings and attend the HPTC meetings that are held with the Hoover Board to be a liaison for our school. I also coordinate a back to school faculty luncheon and winter soup luncheon for our wonderful staff! And to end the year, I will put together our Bridge to Berry ceremony for our outgoing 5th graders! Overall, though, it is my goal and the PTA’s goal to enhance the lives of our students and teachers through various activities and grants we do throughout the year!
Your PTA board does so many great things because of all the financial support from all of the awesome GSES parents. We have many different options for you to get involved in the PTA if you are interested. It can be as little of a commitment or as much as you want. We have parents who have just sent their first babies off to kindergarten, we have the parents who have kids in all three of the school levels, we have the full time working moms on the PTA, we have it all! There definitely is a place for you! We are looking forward to an amazing year at Greystone Elementary!
Sincerely,
Michelle Olson
