Sherman ISD Celebrates Staff Members of the Year!
As the 2018-2019 school year comes to a close, Sherman ISD is acknowledging members of its outstanding staff. Sherman ISD employees with diverse teaching styles and skills have been selected for the 2019 Teacher, Employee, Team, New Teacher and Volunteer of the Year. Listed below are the outstanding educators who received the honor this year:
Elementary Teacher of the Year
Blanca Serrano
Crutchfield Elementary
Blanca Serrano is a second-grade bilingual teacher at Crutchfield Elementary. Although this is only her second year of teaching, Ms. Serrano conducts her classes as if she has had many years of experience. She understands the academic and social and emotional needs of her students and maintains a high level of rigor inside her classroom. Ms. Serrano is always thinking of out of the box ways to capture the attention of her students and enhance their bilingual skills. Last year, after a chapter book study, Ms. Serrano’s class wrote their class book in English and Spanish. A copy of the book was purchased for the campus library for students to enjoy.
Secondary Teacher of the Year
Suzanne Green
Sherman High School
New Teacher of the Year
Sarah Morgan
Neblett Elementary
Sarah Morgan is a third-grade math teacher at Neblett Elementary. Her quiet spirit and continual genuine affirmation provide a classroom for success. Students are greeted by name and a smile as they enter Mrs. Morgan's classroom each day. As a new teacher on her campus, her classroom is known to be cheerful, purposeful, and student-centered. Ms. Morgan’s learning day is well planned, orchestrated and engaging and students are often seen working around the classroom on projects and anchor charts. Mrs. Morgan's smile and enthusiasm are contagious when you walk inside of her classroom, you immediately notice that time is never wasted, hands are never idle, and learning is always taking place.

Teacher of the Year Perks!
Being selected as Teacher of the Year is a great accomplishment in any school district. However, being selected as Teacher of the Year in Sherman ISD has its perks, thanks to the district’s generous partners in education.
During the Monday night board meeting, Sherman ISD proudly announced Suzanne Green as the Secondary Teacher of the Year and Blanca Serrano as the Elementary Teacher of the Year. Both honorees were then told they would receive a free one year lease of a Chevrolet Equinox from Sherman Chevrolet.
“We know that teachers have a pretty thankless job so we figured out a way to give back. We thought of giving a free car for one year,” Sherman Chevrolet Sales Manager Matt Viers expressed to the audience during the meeting. “Each teacher is being awarded a Chevy Equinox to drive for a year. They both are now the proud recipients of a free car from Sherman Chevrolet.”
Both teachers were pleasantly surprised by the announcement and immediately left the meeting to pick up their new car.
Congratulations Ms. Green and Ms. Serrano!
