Westwood Families,
I hope all of you had a restful, safe and healthy break and you were able to fill your hearts and minds with what you needed most. We are nearing the end of the trimester. A couple of dates to track:
- Friday, December 4 is a regular school day for students and they should follow their schedules online. Originally this was a teacher workshop day and that day was moved to the beginning of the year.
- Monday, December 7 there is no school. Teachers and staff will be using this day for trimester grading and reporting.
- Friday, December 11 report cards will be available through Parent Portal in Campus. Report cards are just one of many ways that we report on student learning throughout the year. Report card grades reflect student learning, and teachers look at evidence of learning, over time, to determine where students are at in their learning at the time of report cards. See the Need to Know section for more information on how to read your student’s report card.
Your Extended Flexible Learning experience
Students at Westwood have now all transitioned to Extended Flexible Learning. We want to hear how it’s going. The experience is a little different depending on your student’s grade level:
Does your student’s experience match what is outlined in the overview? If not, we want to hear from you so we can work to deliver these expectations. Every day, we are working to support our teachers and staff in making this an engaging and effective learning experience.
This week, we’ve paused all targeted at-school learning including center-based special education. Health care infrastructure has reached a critical breaking point. We are working with our regional support team and assessing what can safely continue given the public health situation and staffing impacts in our schools. We hope to resume some targeted services as quickly as possible.
At this point, we can expect to be in Extended Flexible Learning (distance) through at least winter break. We will continue to work with each student and family to make these weeks engaging and productive.

Trimester 1 report cards for students in Grade 5
- An NA indicates that students did not have opportunities to learn this outcome in trimester 1.
- Specialist grades in grade 5 Art, Music, PE, and Grade 6 PE and Art will be listed as NA – teachers will continue with the learner outcomes in trimester 2 and report out on progress at the end of trimester 2 and trimester 3.
- An NE (No Evidence) grade indicates that students had opportunities to learn this outcome during Trimester 1, but did not submit any evidence of their learning. As a result, there is no evidence to determine where they are at toward meeting the learning outcomes.
Trimester report cards will be available to access through Campus Parent Portal beginning December 11.
Trimester 1 Report cards for students in Grades 6,7,8
Students will receive a grade of NY (Not Yet) for any courses where they have submitted evidence of learning but have not demonstrated proficiency in their learning to result in a grade of A, B, C, or D.

Students will receive a grade of NE (No Evidence) for any courses where they have submitted no or limited evidence of learning in Trimester 1.
- Students who end Trimester 1 with a grade of NE will continue with the learning in trimester 2 to aquire the academic outcomes until they demonstrate proficiency on course learning outcomes that result in a grade of A, B, C, or D.
