On Tuesday, Nov. 9, the School Board of Directors will hear a single reading and vote on whether to ask the community to replace the expiring Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy as part of the Feb. 8, 2022, ballot.

The EP&O Levy helps bridge the gap between what the state funds as basic education and the cost of all the programs, services and essential staff the Edmonds School District provides for our students.

On Tuesday, Oct. 19, the School Board had a study session to hear information about a proposed 2022 Replacement Educational Programs and Operations Levy (EP&O).

Nearly four years ago, voters approved an EP&O Levy with an estimated tax rate of $1.50. The proposed replacement levy would keep a consistent tax rate. This would not be a new tax.

As the hours of daylight wane, students might be walking to and from school under darker skies. We also have reports some young ghosts, goblins and Disney characters could be out with their friends looking for candy this weekend.

Please remind your children to be aware of their surroundings and to take appropriate and safe steps if they encounter suspicious activity.

When walking to and from school, some helpful tips include:

Wear reflective clothing and/or shoes.
Discuss places to go for help when walking to or from school.
Remind students to stay with a group whenever possible.
Pay attention to your surroundings while in public – more so than your phone.
If you are in trouble or SEE trouble, call 911 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after you are in a safe place. A timely law enforcement notification allows responding officers to potentially locate the perpetrator and investigate the matter appropriately.
