Remote Learning Update
It's Teacher Appreciation Week!
Help Us Celebrate Our Amazing Teachers!
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and we want to celebrate the amazing things our Academy staff does for our students. Please see below for three options to show our staff your appreciation. We hope you'll join us in celebrating our staff!!
Option 1:
Parents and students are encouraged to send targeted messages of appreciation to individual teachers via email. Please visit the Contact Directory at https://www.pisd.edu/domain/8773 for correct email addresses or see facilitator emails address later in this eNews under Report of Learning Progress
Option 2:
Give our staff a shout out on our Facebook Page ~ post a note of appreciation, encouragement, a Tik Tok, a video message, etc.
Option 3: Seniors!!
I Am The Portrait Of A Graduate!
Senior video challenge: Seniors submit videos, emails, or tweets @PlanoAHS #AcademySeniors2020 of how their experience at Academy HS and the staff have prepared them in these four areas:
- Sense of Self: The Academy graduate will be prepared to take on challenges and problems with enthusiasm and integrity; students will leave the Academy with a strong understanding of their place in the world and the ability to adapt to challenges and change, thereby overcoming adversity.
- Learners: The Academy graduate is an enterprising risk taker who voraciously innovates solutions.
- Collaborators: The Academy graduate is an individual who, through interactions, leaves a positive footprint on peers and community. By acknowledging the differences in others and knowing when to lead and when to follow, our students will be productive collaborators.
- Connected: The Academy graduate realizes, and engages in, the academic, social, and professional communities in which they participate on campus, local, national, and global levels.

Happy National Nurses' Day ~ We LOVE Nurse Adams!
Report of Learning Progress
Parents,
First, we want to thank you for your partnership as our learners complete this time of remote learning. Your responsiveness and communication with our team has been fantastic and we appreciate you. We want to share that we have uploaded a “progress report” to parent portal for you to be able to review your learner’s course progress to date. The goal of this report is for you to see what your learner’s course score would be if the semester ended today. This will give your learner an opportunity to reach out directly to the appropriate facilitators in the case that they would like to submit additional evidence of learning. As always, if you have questions about scores, the facilitator is the best point of contact. For ease of communication we have included facilitator emails below.

SAT/ACT Prep in Edgenuity
Academy Parents and Learners,
In the April 23, district communication to families it was shared that learners have access to comprehensive SAT/ACT test preparation materials. The information below is from that district communication. While we are not using Edgenuity as our course learning platform at Academy, all Academy students can access Edgenuity by logging into webdesk.pisd.edu. The Edgenuity icon looks like this:
When you login the first time it will automatically take you through an Edgenuity video tutorial. When that is complete, there is a plus sign in the upper right hand corner that will allow learners to access the test preparation materials. These materials will be accessible through the summer.
Comprehensive Test Preparation for High School and Senior High Students
We are pleased to offer optional comprehensive test preparation to prepare your students to be successful on high-stakes exams, including the SAT®, PSAT® and ACT® through the Edgenuity platform. These courses provide engaging curriculum featuring on-screen teachers who deliver direct instruction, and a full suite of learning tools and scaffolds that support student learning.
· Students will begin Virtual Tutor courses by taking a pretest to determine their strengths and weaknesses and in order to create an individualized content review program. Students then work through the course content, completing frequent assessments so they can monitor their own performance.
·
· Students may “self-enroll” in these courses when they log in to Edgenuity beginning April 24. The content of these courses is completely optional, will not be monitored by a teacher and will not count toward the fourth nine weeks grades.
