Note from the Dean

Hi Abes!

Remember that we don't have school on Friday, 2/12 or Monday, 2/15. Did you know this Friday, 2/12 is the Lunar New Year? We are entering the year of the Ox! Learn more about the significance of the Lunar New Year here.

For Black History Month, we received a student entry featuring Henrietta Lacks:

Henrietta Lacks was born in 1920 in Roanoke, Virginia. Lacks died of cervical cancer in 1951. Cells taken from her body without her knowledge were used to form the HeLa cell line, which has been used extensively in medical research since that time. Her cells are the fastest reproducing cells on earth. Her cells today are used to study the human genome, to learn more about how viruses work, and they played a crucial role in the development of the polio vaccine. Although Henrietta Lacks passed away October 4th, 1951, at the age of 31, her cells continue to impact the world.

- Isha (Class of 2022)

Dear Families,

Tacoma Public Schools athletics competition kicks off this week, and we are ready for it! We are so pleased to have our student athletes back, safely training with coaches and teammates.

Under the new guidelines set by Gov. Inslee’s Healthy Washington - Roadmap to Recovery, indoor and outdoor athletic events have limited event capacity. Due to these limitations, Tacoma Public Schools is unable to accommodate spectators at our athletic events.

We know the joy and satisfaction that comes from being a spectator at our high school events. We recognize the disappointment that comes from missing any opportunity to support your student athlete. Still, the health and safety of our students and staff is our priority, so will we continue to follow the guidance offered by Gov. Inslee and the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

The good news is that we have entered a contract with the NFHS to provide live streaming for soccer, volleyball and football. All home games will be streamed live at The monthly pass to watch online is $10.99. Thank you for your support.
