Skyview School of STEM
September 28, 2023
From the Principal's Desk
Hello Skyview families,
It is hard to believe that we are already saying goodbye to September and that October is beginning next week. Here at Skyview, our routines and systems are set, and great learning is happening in each of our classrooms. Students are digging into their math, reading, and writing curricula, and science, social studies, and character education are being interwoven into learning.
We are excited to have the opportunity to meet with each of our families the weeks of October 23 and 30. Our later evenings will be on October 25 and October 30, but with a goal of 100% family participation, our teachers will be willing to find alternative times if needed. We are asking that families only sign up for one conference time per child. This will allow teachers to have one common message for each parent without missing details. This also allows our staff to meet with each family in an efficient manner. Thank you for your cooperation.
We had a whole school evacuation (fire) drill today, and our staff and students did a great job. We were able to quickly exit and ensure that all people left the building safely. These drills, while they take time and may cause emotional responses, are one way we provide safety for our students at school. Students who may have emotional responses are supported by our staff or counselors if needed. Please reach out to the school if any questions or concerns arise after our drills.
Our next district days off for students are on October 12 and 13. Please be sure to secure necessary care for your children on these days.
Have a wonderful weekend enjoying the uncharacteristically warm weather.
Sincerely,
Evan Netzer
Skyview Principal
Immunization Compliance
Attention parents! By October 30th your student must be compliant with the state immunization process either by being up to date with current required immunizations or by completing the exemption process. If your student is not compliant, they will be excluded from school starting October 30th. You can view your student's immunization record and status on the parent portal by selecting "more" from the menu options, then selecting "health, immunizations."
Please contact Mrs Cobb in the health office with any questions. 970-686-8512.
Treating the School Staff
Hello Skyview Families!
To show appreciation for the Skyview School of STEM staff, the Mailbox Elves like to provide a small token in each mailbox one day during a specified month. This year we have about 78 mailboxes to fill and we try to keep each token under or around $1 per person so any participation is appreciated no matter how large or small. Below is a signup link that offers different opportunities each month for help in providing supplies or monetary donations to put together these special tokens for the staff. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0D4CACAC2DA3F58-44431638-skyview
We ask that any donated items be dropped off or sent by the date indicated for each month's slot on the signup as this will ensure the delivery will be made before any holiday breaks. For questions, item drop off locations, and monetary donation instructions please email Kelsey Hewell directly at hewellhouse@gmail.com for further instructions.
Thank you for your time and contributions! The teachers and staff at Skyview are amazing and we look forward to brightening their remaining days throughout this school year!
School Attendance on October 2
Each year, public schools across the state of Colorado are required to participate in the “October Student Count” to determine the official number of students enrolled in each school, which impacts funding. The count will occur on Monday, Oct. 2, this year. We're asking for your help in making sure your student attends school on Monday, Oct. 2. While next Monday is an important day, consistent school attendance is beneficial every day. Research shows that students who consistently miss school are at risk of lower academic achievement, failure, and even dropping out of school altogether.
Thanks!

Visiting/Volunteering? Don't forget your ID
As part of our ongoing efforts to increase the safety and security of our schools, we will continue to require all visitors and volunteers to be processed through the Raptor Technologies screening system. All non-staff members wishing to access the school building will need to provide a state / government-issued ID at check in. Volunteers must reapply each school year.
Visitors
Visitors typically do not work with students unsupervised and are not engaging with regular and ongoing volunteer activities. Utilizing a state or government issued ID, all visitors will be screened against the registered sex offender database.
Volunteers (including field trip chaperones)
Volunteers are involved on a more regular and ongoing basis and may be alone with students. All volunteers must complete an application and background check that includes a search of the national criminal database, sex offender list, and terrorist watchlist. Once an account has been created and the application has been approved, you will be able to login and review volunteer opportunities at your selected schools. Apply Now (English|Spanish)
