Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 28th January 2022
Reception Superheroes!
Reception Heroes
As promised in the last newsletter, here is our evidence of superheroes in Reception! The children thought carefully about the superpower they would most like to have, and then designed their fabulous superhero capes. What a fantastic job the children did of following their designs and working independently to cut and layer their fabrics. The children are so proud of how they look and couldn't wait to put them to the test with a speedy trip around the daily mile track. Great work, Reception! All that remains now is to evaluate and further improve our capes. Watch this space...
Our superhero work does not stop there, though. All superheroes need to stay safe and strong, so we thought about the different ways of being a 'healthy hero'. We learnt about the 'eat well plate' and the importance of a balanced diet. We designed our own healthy pizza-style snack and created our healthy shopping lists. We then set off on a trip to the supermarket to shop for our ingredients, making sure we followed all the road safety rules. Afterwards, we put a real oven in our home corner to prepare and cook our pizzas and learnt how to stay safe in a kitchen. We can confirm that our healthy pizzas were just as good as the real thing!
Microbits!
Year 6 have been coding physical systems this week. They have become familiar with micro:bits, using a range of inputs, outputs and looping to code their device. Their outputs started as showing specific LED lights, but then moved onto creating sound as well as using the micro:bit as a thermometer!
School Update
COVID Update
Covid cases have continued to drop in school as the week has progressed and at this point we have noted a significant reduction in the number of children displaying symptoms and accessing PCR tests. We are hopeful that the challenges that our whole school family have encountered over the last few weeks will now be behind us; however, we do continue to ask that if children display symptoms (including headache and stomach ache) that a PCR test is accessed.
Indoor PE Kit and earrings
A reminder - indoor PE kit for all children is black shorts (white if you haven't updated yet to black) and a plain white T-shirt/school logo T-shirt. Grey joggers are for outdoor kit. Please do ensure children have all kit in school. If children have had ears pierced they must remove earrings, if children are unable to (eg newly pierced) then plasters to cover the earrings should be provided.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards

Creating Dragons in Year 2
Investigating materials in Year 1
Stormy Descriptions
Year 5 enjoyed experimenting with figurative language to create an atmospheric description of a storm out at sea. They thought about the language that they could use to help convey the power and majesty of a storm. The children thought carefully about how they could construct their sentences which they then typed up so that they could be published.

Community News
Dear School leaders, Governors, Teachers, Pupils and Families
Ripon Together is a not-for-profit partnership organisation which brings people together to work on projects and activities to make the city of Ripon a friendly and thriving place to live and a welcoming place to visit. For more details please see the website, www.ripontogether.com
The Summer of Play 2021 was an idea to help children, after COVID lockdowns, see and try out some activities which they may have missed out on. And for organisations and clubs to present themselves to those children and families.
We are now formulating plans for 2022 and we enclose a link to a short survey where we would like a little help from you. We want to offer things that are relevant, useful and fun for children, young people and families, connecting organisations and showing what is available for them around Ripon.
The events will take place in August, when the schools are closed and we don’t expect schools to be directly involved, we just want views, advice and information on how best to offer something good.
If there is anyone in your organisation who could give us their ideas, then please ask them to complete the survey. The more information we have the better that we can prepare.
Any questions or queries can be emailed to info@ripontogether.com or call David Ingham 07775 731276.
Yours sincerely
Directors of Ripon Together.
