Kindergarten Screening for incoming Kindy Students
Dear parent or guardian:
We are excited to welcome your kindergarten student to District 47! In preparation for our new school year next fall, the district typically conducts kindergarten screenings in the spring to gauge the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of incoming students.
All kindergarten screenings will be held at Wehde Early Childhood Center, which is housed within Glacier Elementary School, located at 1120 Village Rd in Crystal Lake.
In designated 20-minute time slots, incoming kindergarteners will meet one-on-one with a certified District 47 staff member. During this session, staff members will informally assess students on a variety of early math and early literacy skills. In accordance with CDC and IDPH guidelines, staff members will wear masks, use hand sanitizer, and strive to maintain a reasonable distance from each child. Your child will also be asked to wear a mask during the screening process. In addition, all surfaces in the room will be disinfected between sessions.
Dates and times for the screenings are now available. Please click the link below that corresponds to your child’s school and choose the time slot that works best for you and your family. Note: If the date designated for your child’s school doesn’t work for you, feel free to choose an alternate date. To avoid large group gatherings and maintain social distancing guidelines, we ask that families remain in their cars once parked. You will receive a phone call as a notification to enter the building.
Kindergarten Screening Appointment Schedule:
Thursday, May 27th (Canterbury/Coventry/North)
Friday, May 28th (Canterbury/Coventry/North)
Tuesday, June 1st (Indian Prairie/Woods Creek)
Wednesday, June 2nd (Husmann/West)
Thursday, June 3rd (Glacier Ridge/South)
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us conduct these screenings in a safe and healthy manner. We look forward to meeting both you and your child. Should you have any questions, please leave a message for student information services at 815-788-5030 and your call will be returned.

Nurse News
If you pick up the free COVID test(s) at the CORE to test either yourself or anyone in your immediate family, anyone in direct extended contact, EVERYONE MUST REMAIN HOME UNTIL YOU HAVE THE RESULTS. Please DO NOT send anyone (the student tested OR their siblings) back to school while waiting for the results. This is extremely important in the event that the result should come back positive.
I am thrilled that our district has offered this opportunity to staff, families, and students, so let's continue to adhere to what is necessary to keep everyone safe and healthy. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
***IMPORTANT (UPDATED) INFORMATION AND
REQUIRED CRITERIA***

If your child(ren) have even ONE of the following symptoms, please DO NOT send them to
school, and keep ALL of their siblings home as well (including middle school and high school

STUDENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT
5th Grade Celebration Event
Hello Cougar families! We can’t believe the end of the year is finally upon us, and what a year it has been! We are so proud of all of our students, and we would like to celebrate our fifth graders for completing their elementary school days in the midst of a pandemic.
Traditionally, HPTO sponsors a “Buddy Burners” event for all fifth grade students; however, with current guidelines, that is not possible this year. We would like to invite all of our fifth grade students, both in-person and remote, to join the fifth grade teachers, Mr. Sromek, and Mrs. Fitzgerald at Husmann on May 19th from 5:00-5:45 p.m. on the blacktop near door six (cafeteria door). Each student will receive their 5th grade yard sign, 5th grade t-shirt, an autograph page for signing, and a goodie bag filled with wonderful certificates from our community. Please DO NOT bring yearbooks, as they will not be able to be signed at this time.
Please plan to DROP YOUR STUDENT OFF at the gate in the drop off lane at 5:00pm. Please note that parents will not be permitted on the property due to covid guidelines. We will start the evening with a socially-distanced group photo promptly at 5:05pm, so please be on time if you wish to be included in the photo. After the photo, students will head to their homeroom table to begin signing autograph sheets and will rotate through a set of tables so that they can sign everyone’s autograph page. After signing, students will return to their homeroom table to receive their goodie bags, signs, and t-shirts. Please plan to PICK YOUR STUDENT UP at the end of the pick up lane near Paddock St. at 5:45.
If there is inclement weather on this date, your fifth grade items can still be picked up; however, it would be done as a “supply pick up” style event from your vehicle.
We congratulate our Cougars for a strong finish and a job well done and wish them all the best in junior high!
Things to remember:
- Cell phones are not allowed at this event. Mr. Sromek & Mrs. Fitzgerald will be at the entrance gate and should your son/daughter have a phone they will need to return it to you/your vehicle.
- Please drop your student off promptly at 5pm.
- Parents are not permitted inside the fenced area.
- Bring a Crayola marker for signing.

End-of-the-Year Project
The HPTO, in collaboration with Husmann staff, is excited to announce a fun, end-of-the-year project that will be displayed at Husmann for many years to come! Beginning May 17th all Husmann students will be decorating one 4” ceramic tile that will then be displayed on one of the corridor or stairwell walls at Husmann. We plan to arrange these beautiful tiles into an all-school mural of sorts to commemorate the very unique 2020-2021 school year. Students will be brainstorming ideas with their teachers, and then painting their own tiles to show what this year’s district theme of “Navigating Forward” means to them. Students will be participating in this project during the school day. We apologize to remote students that needed to come back to pick up their supplies again.
1st Day School Supplies
We are once again partnering with 1st Day School Supplies to offer pre-made kits for the fall. This is not a fundraiser but simply a convenient way to take the hassle out of back-to-school shopping. Be sure to get your order in before July 1st!
