Notes from our Social Worker Ms. Calderon- (Emotions: Part 1)
Parents and Guardians,
Hello! Here at school, we have begun to discuss our emotions. In this specific newsletter we will be discussing emotions in general. It's okay to feel mad, sad, or happy. All emotions are normal. Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are many ways that you can help your child continue to learn about emotions, through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! Thank you and have a great day!
Read About It
Here are videos to help children learn more their emotions. They can be found on youtube:
English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSdSWlfCpJ8
Spanish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fbbqwws0vBE
Practice It
Here are some examples of what you can do to practice talking about their emotions:
PK-1st: Practice identifying different emotions on television shows/videos. Have your child practice showing you different emotions.
2nd-4th: Practice identifying different emotions on television shows/videos. Talk about how the character's faces and behaviors change.
Talk About It
Here are some discussion points to help you talk about emotions with your child:
•What are emotions?
•What kind of different emotions do we have?
•All emotions are okay
•What can we do if we feel negative emotions?
