Te Aroha Primary Newsletter
Term 2 Week 10 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou
Welcome to week 10.
This is the last week of the term. I hope you all have a great holiday with your children and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 26 July.
ABSENTEEISM
There are a number of children who have concerning rates of absenteeism and also some who continually arrive late to school on a regular basis.
Children are required to be at school each day and need to arrive at least five minutes before the start of the school day so that they are ready to start their learning promptly at 9.00am with the rest of the class.
Sport
Rugby.
Well done to all our children who finished their rugby this last weekend.
A special mention to Evan Bedford who was awarded the Brett Ranga Cup for the Most Outstanding Under 8 Player in the Thames Valley. Well done Evan we are so proud of you.
Netball:
A reminder that there is netball this weekend and everyone is expected to be there. Some girls still owe some money for fees and I need this by tomorrow, please .
TEACHER PAID UNION MEETINGS AND LEARNING CONVERSATIONS
The NZEI, the union for all teachers in NZ has informed us that they have arranged Paid Union Meetings on Tuesday 6 July starting at 9.30am. This is to discuss the upcoming bargaining for the teachers new Collective Agreement.
There will, therefore, be no school for children on this day but our Learning Conversations will continue as planned starting at 1.00pm when staff will be back at work.

Here we are, the final week of a very busy term. The use of decodable readers is now well underway in the class, thank you to all the parents who have supported their children by continuing the hard work with blending and segmenting words at home. The last of our phonics work is x,y and z and blending CVC words. Our Maths this week is measuring - we are learning to compare a group of objects by length and measure them with non-standard units e.g blocks, hands etc. I am looking forward to catching up with parents today and tomorrow at Leaning Discussions. Have a great holiday everyone, children are ready for a good break!
Rm 2 Miss Green
Week 10 has come around so quickly! This week we have parent interviews Monday and Tuesday so remember to book a time if you would like to see me. Just a reminder no school Tuesday as we have a teachers only day.
We loved celebrating Matariki last week. We created some beautiful art after reading Little Kiwi's Matariki. Come in and check them out! We also shared a lovely meal together, bacon and vege soup with toast to celebrate Matariki.
Friday was a great day, the kids spent it in their PJs and watched a movie. They earnt this PJ and movie day by filling their star jar by working hard over the term.
This week we will be revising learning from over the term. Children may bring home books they have already seen, to practice fluency and word work. Dictated sentences to practice reading and writing will come home also.
Rm 3 Miss Swan
Kia ora koutou,
Welcome to week 10! Where has the term gone? This week, we have our learning discussions on Monday and Tuesday, and I am looking forward to checking in with everyone again.
Reading: Reading books will come home as normal this week. We are continuing to focus on the vowel digraph - ee for phonics and homework spelling.
Writing: We are learning to use different sentence beginnings to make our writing interesting.
Maths: We are continuing to look at half and quarter fractions. Last week was so much fun and we found we use fractions in our everyday lives!
Reminders for the week: Please remember you can pop in and see me or contact me via Seesaw and email mswan@tearohaprimary.school.nz
I wish you all a safe and happy holiday and I will see you in Term 3!
Rm 5 Miss Entwisle
Our Spelling words this week are all about ot and gl. We will be finishing up Report Writing this week and almost all of us have printed out the books that we have been working on. Our topic work has us continuing to work on our 3-D models of scarab beetles that are being painted gold to replicate the treasures of Ancient Egypt. In Mathematics we continue to look at Multiplication and Division. Our Spelling words are shared each week via the Seesaw activity section. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via email at mentwisle@tearohaprimary.school.nz or through the Seesaw message function.

Wow it is hard to believe we are heading in to the last week of the term.
In Maths this week we will be looking at the Calendar and how to correctly read it. This is a great life skill that we actually take for granted. you would probably be shocked to realise that not all children in our class even know the months of the year...or how many months in a year...or days in a year!!!We take too much fro granted! In Reading we will be finishing our Matariki reading and using our retelling skills. As we have finished our information writing, we will be taking a quick look at persuasive writing- but taking both sides of an argument- this will be very interesting!!
Rm 8 Mrs Young

The final week of term 2 has arrived and the school holidays are just around the corner. The week will kick off with learning discussions on Monday and Tuesday afternoon. If you haven’t yet booked a time please do so. We would love to catch up with you.
Inquiry: Our proposals are almost finished. The last finishing touches will be added to our models/proptypes and slide presentations. Each group will have a time slot this week to pitch their proposals to the class. Once all have been heard we will then vote on which one we would like to present to the Board of Trustees. Parents and caregivers are more than welcome to vote on these too. Proposals will be displayed in class and on seesaw this week. Voting will close Friday 1pm.
Literacy: Finishing our class novels will be a huge focus this week. Extra reading homework may be needed for this to be achieved.
Maths: We will revise all strategies learnt this term, along with developing our basic facts.

Enjoy the week and have a happy and safe school holiday.
