History of Mecklenburg
Mecklenburg county was founded in 1762. Mecklenburg county was named for the commemoration of the marriage of King George III to Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

Mecklenburg County is bordered by Gaston, Lincoln, Iredell, Rowan, Cabarnes, and Union. Mecklenburg County has 9 members on their County Board of Commissioners. The County Manager is Dena R. Diorio.
County Seat
Mecklenburg's County Seat is Charlotte. There are 30 members on the city legislature. The City Manager is Marcus D. Jones. The Mayor is Jennifer W. Roberts.

Two of the very popular historical landmarks to visit are Delburg Cotton Mill House and The Charles Barnhardt. Some tourist attractions that you may want to visit are the Nascar Hall of Fame, Carowinds, Freedom Park and The Mint Museum.
