Maltby Messenger
April 14th Edition
A Message From The Principal
Hello Mustang Families!
Welcome back from spring break! The weather has been keeping things very exciting here at Maltby, but as the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers. On that note, we are extremely excited to welcome families, volunteers, and visitors back to our campus. You will see a number of PTO events happening over the next few months, including two movie nights and a bingo night. We are busy planning a celebration for our 5th grade students as they transition into middle school.
We are now allowing volunteers on campus. To volunteer on campus, you need to complete the volunteer application through the MSD website here and provide proof of vaccination upon your first visit to the school. When volunteering on campus, you will need to be assigned to a teacher or employee who can provide guidance about the scope of work that you will be doing. Although all volunteers will need to be approved through the office, teachers will manage their own classroom volunteers. We have experienced many changes this year, so please understand that not all teachers will be welcoming volunteers into the classroom this year. If you have a desire to volunteer in the lunchroom, recess, or other areas on campus, we would love to make that happen.
In conjunction with PTO, we will be hosting a volunteer open house kick off event on Tuesday, April 26th from 5:30-6:30pm. This will be a time for you to come on campus and sign up to volunteer, share your skills and talents, meet the principal, meet the PTO board, shop for spiritwear, and more. Additional details will be provided early next week.
Thank you Mustang Families for bringing your students to school ready each day for their academic and social learning. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at: hillestadc@monroe.wednet.edu or at 360-804-3500.
Sincerely,
Christine Hillestad

CHOICE & INTRA District Transfers for 2022-2023
Is your student attending school on a transfer? The deadline for families to turn in transfer requests is quickly approaching. Families living outside the Monroe School District requesting a Choice Transfer (out of district) or families living within the Monroe School District requesting an Intra-District Transfer (in district) for their child to attend a school outside of their neighborhood attendance area must complete forms to renew their transfers. This includes incoming kindergarten students. The deadline to turn in these forms to be considered for the 2022-2023 school year is Friday, April 1st. Forms received by this date will be reviewed and processed no later than April 22nd or sooner. Families will be notified shortly after. Late forms may not be considered until August.
As a reminder, all transfer forms must be renewed each year. A separate form is required for each child requesting a transfer. Forms are available online by going to https://www.monroe.wednet.edu/about/register-for-school/transfer-requests. Paper copies can be obtained at any of our school buildings or at the Monroe School District Administration Building located at 14692 179th Ave SE in Monroe. For specific questions regarding transfers, please call the District Office at (360) 804-2573. For general enrollment questions, please contact our office.
Tutor.com Services for MSD students

Student Vaccination
If a child is fully vaccinated and is identified as a close contact, they are able to stay at school without testing or quarantine, assuming they continue to display no symptoms. If a vaccinated child does display symptoms of Covid-19, we must then continue to follow the illness guidelines for the Snohomish Health District.
If you would like us to know your child's vaccination dates, please feel free to email or call the office.
Student Covid-19 Testing Consent Form
Did you know that If a student is identified as a close contact at school, they may remain at school after exposure, if they:
- Are tested at least twice during the seven days (Testing is completed at school and includes one test conducted as soon as possible following recognition of the exposure and one test collected 5-7 days after last exposure. Testing would require parent consent prior to any testing) AND
- Have no symptoms of COVID-19; AND
- Continue to wear a mask; AND
- Continue to quarantine outside of school (i.e., not participate in extracurricular activities at school, including sports and other activities outside of their home.)
This option is available for students exposed at school and is not applicable to students exposed outside of school. Below are copies of the parent consent forms if you would like to complete one to have on file.
MSD Employee Honor Roll
Do you know a Monroe School District employee who deserves some much-needed recognition?
Monroe School District has launched a new employee recognition program, called the MSD Employee Honor Roll! This program is aimed at recognizing Monroe School District employees for exemplifying the district’s commitment and shared values through their service to our students, staff, families, and/or community.
All nominees will be recognized, but only one in each employee category will be selected each month as the MSD Employee Honor Roll award recipients. Employee categories include:
Certificated (teachers, counselors, psychologists, etc)
Classified (paraeducators, nurses, office staff, bus drivers, food service, custodial, technology, maintenance, etc)
Substitutes and coaches
Administrators (Principals, assistant principals, directors, executive staff)
School Lunch/Breakfast
This year, students at Monroe School District have a lot to look forward to when it comes to mealtime. For the 2021-2022 school year, meals will be offered to students in all grade levels at no cost, thanks to flexibilities provided by the USDA’s National School Lunch Program. This allows everyone to enjoy 1 free breakfast & 1 free lunch per day.
