What We've Been Learning
How can you protect yourself from online identity theft?
Fourth grade students:
- learned about the benefits of sharing information online, but also about the safety and security risks of sharing certain types of information
- learned what type of information can put them at risk for identity theft and other scams
- learned to distinguish between personal information, which is safe to share online, and private information, which is unsafe to share.
personal information: information that can't be used to identify you, such as your age, gender, how many siblings you have, your favorite food, etc.
private information: information that can be used to identify you, such as your Social Security number, street address, email, phone number, etc.
Grade 5 - Strong Passwords
How can a secure password help you protect your private information?
Fifth grade students:
- learned how to identify the characteristics of strong passwords
- learned how to apply characteristics of strong passwords to create new passwords

Last Stop on Market Street had the distinct honor of receiving a Caldecott Honor AND the Newbery medal! This has not happened since 1982 for A Visit to William Blake's Inn: Poems for Innocent and Experienced Travelers, written by Nancy Willard and illustrated by Alice and Martin Provensen.
Discussing the Importance of a Balanced Reading Diet
