Newborn Appearance

Newborns don't typically look like the babies we see in movies. They have many characteristics that seem bad form them but are actually completely normal. Here are just a few of them:

-Puffy eyes

-Flattened nose

-Cone-shaped head

Bonding With Your Infant

Having a sting bond with your newborn is extremely important in their first few months of life. Bonding is what introduces your child to what it is like to be loved and it begins to mold your child's personality for later on in life. You can bong with you child in many ways:

- Reading

- Bath time

- Play time

- Making eye contact with your baby

- Talking to your baby

- Making faces

- Going for walks

Appropriate Toys For Infants

They are many toys out in the world that are not appropriate for your newborn baby. Some of the toys could be harmful to his/her health. These toys could cause your baby to become sick or even injur themselves. Here are some toys that are safe and fun for your baby:

- Stacking bowls

- Plush toys

- Cardboard books

- Blocks with rounded corners

- Rattles

Breast And Bottle Feeding

There are pros and cons to both types of feeding. Here are just a few for each:


Breast Feeding: Pros

- It gives the mother and child a chance to bond

- It is more natural

- It's cheaper

Cons

- The father looses that chance to bond

- The baby may be allergic to breast milk

- Whatever medications the mother is taking, the baby gets as well


Bottle Feeding: Pros

- Both mother and father get the chance to bong with baby

- There are more options for formula

Cons

- The baby may be allergic to formula

- Formula is much more expensive

Introducing Foods

When introducing foods to your infant for the first time you must be sure to wait until the appropriate time in your baby's life.

- 3 months old: at this stage in your baby's life you can begin to introduce cereals that provide iron and taste differences, starting with rice cereal.

- 4 months: at this stage you can begin feeding your baby mashed hard-cooked egg yolk, and puréed fruits and vegetables such as; bananas, peaches, applesauce, carrots, sweet potatoes, and avocados.

- 6 months: her you can begin to feed your baby puréed meats such as chicken, beef, and turkey.

- 8 months and older: this is the stage at which you can begin to feed your baby strained and chopped up adult foods.

Characteristics Of A Healthy Child

There are many different characteristics that show your baby is happy and healthy. Her are just a few:

- Pink skin tone

- Laughing

- Strong and white teeth

- Smiling

- Healthy sleeping habits

- Energized actions

SIDS Prevention And Crib Safety

SIDS, otherwise known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is the sudden unexplained death of an infant one year or younger. There are many effective ways to prevent SIDS from coming into your child's life.

- Make sure nothing covers the baby's head

- Update child on their vaccines

- Do not allow smoke around the baby

- Keep baby's sleep area near the parents

- Keep soft objects, toys, and loose bedding out of child's sleep area

- Always have the baby sleep on their back


Crib safety is a very important part of keeping your baby safe and healthy. Here are some very important parts of crib safety:

- No more than two inches between the mattress and the side of the crib

- No loose bedding

- no stuffed animals or dangling toys in the crib

- Do not place the crib near a window

- No loose blankets in the crib

- No sides that can be lowered

- make sure the spaces between the cribs bars are close together
