We are now in the process of planning for the 2023-2024 school year. An important consideration in preparing for a successful year is the preparation of class lists. Our placement decisions involve team input and are completed with great care. As we finalize assignments, we prioritize many factors, including academic needs, behavior needs, peer relations, and balancing class size.
Our classroom teachers, fine arts team, student services team, and I will be working closely together to ensure that we have not overlooked any aspect of appropriate placement. If you have any additional special concerns as a parent about the placement of your child, into the 4th or 5th grade, please share these via email to sstewart@glenview34.org by Friday, April 21, 2023. (Input for students going into middle school is handled by the middle schools and they will communicate directly with 5th-grade parents about that.) Please know that we consider this input seriously, but we cannot guarantee that all requests can be honored. Some family requests may conflict with those of other families, or with groupings to meet student needs.
We kindly ask that parents NOT make special requests for teachers.
If your child will not be returning to Hoffman for the 2023-2024 school year because your family is moving or he/she will be enrolling in a private school, please let the office know as soon as possible via email to afranco@glenview34.org and sgarcia@glenview34.org.
Once classes have been formed, change is extremely difficult and typically will not occur. Now is the time for input. We deeply appreciate your help and support in this decision. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Selene Stewart

April is National Child Abuse Prevention month.
The Child Welfare Information Gateway website, https://www.childwelfare.gov/topics/preventing/preventionmonth/ , states that this month recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to strengthen families to prevent child abuse and neglect. Earlier in the school year, your child received information on body safety which covered boundaries, body parts, safe vs. unsafe touch, what you should do if you have a body emergency and when it’s ok to keep secrets and when you should tell someone about an unsafe secret. Before the end of the school year, all students will have a brief review of what was learned in the Fall of 2022 in accordance with National Child Abuse Prevention month.
The Committee for Children (provider of the SEL program Second Step) has created information for parents on how to have ongoing conversations with your children about body safety. The Hot Chocolate Talk campaign is a public awareness campaign designed to help families navigate conversations about child sexual abuse. Our research-based how-to guides and free online resources teach simple, age-appropriate body safety rules and help families create a sense of warmth and comfort when talking about serious topics.Click on the links below for more information on how you can have a “Hot Chocolate Talk” with your child today.
