MMA Montessori Moments
February 10, 2020
Message from our Director
Dear Parents,
Hard to believe I’ve been at Maria Montessori Academy for a month. I appreciate your
welcome and being able to work with the fabulous teachers, staff and especially the
incredible students at this school. I’d like to inform you of a few events coming up.
February 11, 2020 @ 5:30 pm will be our MMA Board meeting. We will be discussing
proposed fees for the 2020-21 school year. As part of the February and March board
meetings, the board will be holding public comment sessions regarding the fee schedule
for next year and an amended fee waiver policy. As always, you are welcome to attend
these public meetings. There are few changes to the existing policy, but you are
welcome to come and participate in our board meeting.
February 14, 2020 @ 9:00 am, 11:00 am, and 1:00 am we will be doing our “Share the
Love Day”. This is an opportunity for your friends and neighbors to come and tour our
school and see what the excitement is about at MMA. We require that students that
come to the school be accompanied by a parent or guardian, so that we do not have
unknown students in the school. Please share the following website with others so they
can RSVP to our tours. https://forms.gle/7DEqk58JWuHKXh527
We can always use your help and courtesy at the school regarding our drop off and pick
up procedures. While dropping off – please pull up along the curb so we can fit as
many cars in as possible. Please do not park on the curb and walk students in. The
drop off is for cars letting students out, and please have them exit the car on the right
side, not left. If you need to walk students in, please park in the lot and bring them in.
When picking up, please be an example to the students by using the cross walks if you
are parked in the parking lot. Please do not jay walk through the traffic areas. We have
crossing guards on duty to help students cross safely to their intended destinations.
We are trying to improve our educational program as well as prepare a few of our grade
levels for next year with some changes that occur within our faculty and staff. We are
trying to make better use of our internal resources and fill classes that have been empty
by combining them and placing faculty and staff together to better facilitate the
Montessori Method of teaching. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we
make these changes.
Once again, thank you for your support of our teachers, program and especially of your
children.
Best regards,
Mr. Mike

Dear MMA community,
I want to take a few moments to thank all of you for the opportunity to serve as one of the founding board members of Maria Montessori. It has been a pleasure to serve alongside you for the last several years. As you know, I am passionate about education and providing world-class educational experiences to students. I earnestly believe that MMA has the capacity and conviction to do so. While the decision is bittersweet, I have chosen to focus more of my attention on grand parenting and broadening the impact of my nonprofit, JENAR Charity Foundation. I treasure the experiences I have had with you and carry the MMA values with me. I admire the commitment, contribution and loyalty you have demonstrated. I have no doubt that you will continue to make MMA a great school for the students in North Ogden.
I have great confidence in your ability to put MMA on the map and as one of the founding members I will continue to cheer for you on the side lines.
Thank you for making education a primary focus for our children and I wish you all well.
Faithfully,
Joan Effiong

Famous Montessorians
Anne Frank was a Montessorian
By Tim Seldin,
President of The Montessori Foundation and
Chair of the International Montessori Council
In 1934, Otto and Edith Frank faced the challenge of finding the right school for their precocious daughter Anne when she was old enough to start school at age 3. For them, Montessori was the answer. Their daughter, Anne Frank, became world famous as an author, and even today, The Diary of Anne Frank and her other writings continue to be best sellers.
Anne started attending the 6e Montessori School in Amsterdam in May 1934. Her father, Otto Frank told friends: “Anne was a demanding character. She continually asked questions… When we had visitors, it was difficult to free yourself from her, because everyone and everything interested her… It was good that Anne went to a Montessori School, where each pupil gets a lot of individual attention.”
Anne Frank was a Montessori child, attending the 6th Montessori School of Amsterdam from age 3 to 11, and then a year at the Montessori Lyceum (high school) until the occupying German authorities forbade Jewish children from attending school with Christian children.
Anne was a typical Montessori child. She was bright, eager, and opinionated. She loved to play Monopoly, and often won. She dreamed of becoming an actress or world famous ice skater
