To the FFA Convention

The Shepaug FFA took eight student members to the 94th National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, IN the last week of October. Students participated in various learning opportunities, including career success tours, educational tours, workshops, and National FFA meetings.

Our students were stunned to see firsthand what opportunities the National FFA Organization has to offer its members. We look forward to sharing more exciting FFA news as our students are finally able to be involved since COVID restrictions are being lifted!

Senior Project Spotlight

Jessica Kisling - Mental Breakout
I am focusing on taking away the stigma and negative associations related to mental health challenges, specifically anxiety and depression. Throughout the year, I am raising money for 211, a nonprofit national hotline that serves as an online support system for people who are struggling with these types of mental health issues.
I have recently started an Instagram page where I am posting updates about the mental health community, positive affirmations, happy pictures, and data, with a goal of neutralizing the stigmas associated with anxiety and depression. By the end of the year, I want to create a club at Shepaug where people feel comfortable to share their story or even their own positive affirmation to help others in need, and to spread the awareness that "It's ok to not be ok."

Brianna Laskowski - Becoming a Pianist
Brianna Laskowski’s senior project is titled Learning How to Play the Piano. Primary activities include learning to read sheet music, learning basic skills of the piano, creating short videos to show her progression throughout the year, and truly figuring out what it takes to be a pianist. She has already begun working on her project by taking weekly piano lessons and practicing every day. She is even planning to play in a recital this winter. Brianna's project is a great example of a student using the senior project experience and opportunity to explore a personal passion.
