Jackson Newsletter
September / October
Dear Jackson Families,
What a wonderful opening to the school year. We had a super September welcoming our Jaguar families back to Jackson. Thank you for attending Open House. Students really enjoyed showing their family around the building.
Next month, you are invited for student-led conferences. You may choose to come in person or request an online conference using Teams. See the sign up below. In grade 1-6 during the first 10 minutes fo the conference, your child will share their learning with you. This portion will be student-led in one classroom. Then you will be able to meet with the English and Spanish teacher for the last 10 minutes in the other classroom.
Our teachers have been tirelessly working to set up the best classroom environments for our students to live the Jackson mission, “Together we create an environment where we learn and support each other.” One way we give feedback to students is when they earn “paw pats” for following the expectations and showing kindness at Jackson. Their classroom has set up incentives using the earned paw pats. As a school, paw pats goals will be celebrated during the month “Paw”sitive Pep Rally. Be sure to ask your student how they have earned paw pats and encourage your student to be ready to learn and follow the expectations each day. We will also start our Student of the Month recognitions. The first 'Paw'sitive Pep Rally will be shared with staff and students on October 4.

Wellness Tip of the Month
#BeKind & Gratitude. According to Harvard and psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness, builds strong relationships, and improves overall health. When we are thankful and appreciate all the goodness in our lives, we feel better. It helps us face adversity and try new things. The counselor has focused on kindness during class lessons. Students noticed that they feel better when they choose kindness and interact with each other with kindness. How can you and your family show gratitude and choose kindness? It takes effort, but is well worth it.

OPS Standard Response Protocol / Emergency Response
During the month of August and September, Jackson practiced emergency drills including: fire, severe weather, and lockdown. You can find more information about the OPS Standard Response Protocol here: https://iloveuguys.org/The-Standard-Response-Protocol.html
Please help us practice these safety drills and be prepared for any emergency by asking your student where their class goes during any of the safety drills. Remind them to listen to adult directions, stay calm, and stay with their class. We know with your help and support, our students and staff will be ready for any emergency.
In the event of an emergency, it is critical to be able to contact you. Please make sure you always notify the office of any changes with phone numbers or addresses.

Interested in Volunteering?
Please use link to complete the volunteer application:
https://omaha.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=9889
All adults who wish to volunteer on a school campus or chaperone day field trips, and district sponsored activity with students need to complete the application BEFORE volunteering with students or in the building. The required Volunteer Application allows the District and the schools to provide the appropriate level of clearance for school volunteers, protecting our students. Level 3 volunteering requires a background check. We ask that all volunteers are vaccinated and wear a mask in the building.
