Copyright:
A collection of rights granted to the author of a piece of work (books, blog, websites, art, etc.) Some of those rights include selling the work, altering it, leasing it, lending it, and so on. Something is copyrighted once a piece of work is created in any tangible form.
Types of Licenses
Public Domain
Isn't protected by any copyrighted law because the copyright has expired, the work was created using public money, or the creator their work to the public domain
Examples: Classic music, classic literature
Freeware
Copyrighted work that you can copy, use, or give away for free.
Examples: iTunes, Windows, Safari, Internet Explorer
Shareware
Copyrighted work you can share, use for free, and copy.
Example: Lite Apps

Allows the buyer to use purchased software only on the terms of a specific license agreement.
Examples: Microsoft, video games, music
Open Source
Software that includes the source code with the idea that someone can alter and improve it.
Examples: Firefox, Chrome, Linux
