Journalist Jason DeParle of The New York Times recently flew to Austin to visit with Bastrop ISD's Norma Mercado, the district's Family and Social Services Coordinator about the unique set of services the district provides to students experiencing homelessness. Click the link to read the full story. (The article is free but an account may be required.)
Fernanda Torres has worked for Bastrop ISD since 2000, first as a custodian, then as a paraprofessional and now as a first grade classroom teacher at Bluebonnet Elementary. Join us as she shares her inspirational story and makes us all #BISDProud!
The City of Bastrop invites students who are currently in grades 8, 9, 10 and 11 to apply for a seat on the Bastrop Youth Advisory Council. Students must reside in the BISD boundaries, have a 3.0 GPA (or middle school equivalent). Several seats are open for the new term (which begins this summer). The Bastrop YAC helps to provide input to the mayor and city council on issues important to teens in our community. Download your application here: https://bit.ly/3KXKYpM Applications are due April 26 and can be emailed to Dr. Kristi Lee at firstname.lastname@example.org or delivered to the BISD Service Center at 906 Farm Street.

Reading Together! Literacy Series Big Success
The Bilingual/ESL department held a Literacy Series at Cedar Creek Elementary and Red Rock Elementary. We partnered up with BookSpring, who gave our families great tips and strategies to encourage reading at home. Families took home amazing books and information!
