Message and Assembly Invitation from the Principal
Public schools play a unique and vital role in our communities in that they are one of the few institutions to bring people from all walks of life together to learn to interact and belong respectfully in the same space.
We take this duty and responsibility seriously at Ridgeline Middle School, and we work to create a safe and welcoming environment where students can learn at high levels and families feel a sense of inclusion, belonging, and connection to our school community. At Ridgeline, we believe in accepting people for who they are. We believe in respecting all differences and learning to communicate and work together to live meaningful, productive, and joyful lives.
This belief aligns with the legacy and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who we will celebrate and honor on January 13th at 9:45 a.m. at a schoolwide virtual assembly. Students and parents can access the webinar link at the end of this message. The link and information will also be sent to student and parent emails.
In Advisory on Tuesday, January 12th, students will be asked what they currently know about the life and work of Dr. King and have a brief discussion to prepare for the assembly the following day. Then on Wednesday, students and parents may log on to the webinar link below to view the assembly that begins at 9:45 a.m. This time will not conflict with any teacher office hours, as Mr. Nielsen is rescheduling with his students on that day.
I will open the assembly with a brief introduction, and then the audience will view an address by James Layman, the Director of the Association of Washington Student Leaders. Afterward, there will be a questions and answer session with a panel of three RMS student leaders.
Dr. King and his message of inclusion, belonging, and respecting differences is the reason we have a federal holiday on January 18th. I hope all students and parents will join us in celebrating and honoring that message at the schoolwide assembly on January 13th at 9:45 a.m.

YCS Innovative Teacher of the Week Recipient
CONGRATULATIONS! Kate Gyekis, RMS PE/Health Teacher
Kate has an unwavering belief in her students! She exudes positivity and finds her "why" in serving others.
In virtual class, Kate acknowledges her students by using their names every day when they enter and exit. She also thinks it is really important to give students the time and space to socialize prior to each lesson. This keeps their personal connections alive and growing. Kate recognizes students who are making a positive impact by sending emails and postcards. She has a fantastic student of the month program, too, which includes special treats sent via mail.
Kate is so proud of the way her colleagues have adapted to an entirely new way of teaching. She says it is important to continue holding high expectations for student learning, while remaining flexible and empathetic. She knows her students want to be successful and says sometimes they just need someone to believe in them.
INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN
Winter often brings inclement weather and could cause school delays and closures. In our virtual learning environment, we may experience delays and closures too. There are many factors that impact our decision. Superintendent explains in the video below. Also visit our FAQ page for the revised bell schedule.
