Keeping Your Data Safe
We recently attended a Technology District Collaborative meeting at Region XIII. Many districts are being hit hard with Ransomware, Spyware, Denial of Service Attacks (DOS) and Malware. Some districts have not had teacher computers for at least a week because their computers were invaded with malware. Yesterday our Website hosting company, Gabbart, was hit by a DOS attack. This attack shut down everyone’s website for an hour or more while they worked to rebuild servers. Knowing where and when to click on an email link is very important. Be careful before you click. If something looks suspicious to you, please contact your campus Tech. Also, saving and backing up your files in a safe place is imperative. If your computer is infected, we may not be able to recover your data.
Reminders:
Use an external hard drive or flash drive daily to backup
Use Google Drive to store your files
Delete the download files weekly.
Regularly clean up your email.
THINK before you CLICK.
If you see your mouse moving or command prompts running and you do not see one of our tech department names connected to your pc, follow these steps:
1. Unplug the blue, red, grey or white Cat 5 cable.
2. Shut down your PC and contact your campus tech immediately.
3. To further clarify, if any tech connects to your pc, you will see a message from them, via email, notepad or sticky notes.
If you have questions, please contact your campus Tech,Collin or James.
