Ideas & Support to help implement technology
CPS Teacher Focus
Kelly Stenger - Cheviot School
Kelly Stenger is in her 10th year working as an Intervention Specialist for CPS, she currently teaches 4th grade at Cheviot School.
Kelly and her students are avid users of Google Read & Write. Many of the students use G-Suite applications within their classwork, so Kelly utilizes this tool to be in multiple places at once. Students have the ability to access and read questions and materials because Google Read & Write assists them. One of the features that her students really like is that they have an opportunity to speak their responses into the computer. This feature alone has helped increase work completion and decrease fustration in several of her students who, often at times, feel overwhelmed with the writing process. Google Read & Write has alleviated a lot of barriers (spelling, etc.) for her students who have specific needs in the areas of reading fluency and written expression.
Another integrated piece of technology that Kelly utilizes is Bookshare. Each quarter an anchor text is added to the student's reading list. The students have the opportunity to utilize Bookshare in the classroom or at home so they can stay current with each chapter/section of the book.
Keep up the great work you are doing, Kelly!
Google Read & Write has been pushed out to all teachers and students. If it is not in your Chrome Browser, you can manually add it by following these instructions.

Embed a YouTube Video in your Schoology Course
Using this feature removes suggested videos that follow your preferred video. You are able to add the videos to any assignments, test/quiz, assessments, or include it under the Add a Page feature all located in the Add Materials Menu.

Clever
We are working to make Clever a one-stop portal for our district-supported and approved applications in order to reduce the number of sites to which you need to navigate and logins to remember!
The applications you will have access to vary by district purchased, school site purchased, or just login links. Only those that you have access to will be presented in the portal. Below is an explanation of the categories of links to help you better understand how to use this portal.
All users should have a Clever shortcut on your desktop. Teachers and students can log in to Clever using their CPS Google credentials. Students without Google accounts can also log in to Clever with their Clever name and password, which follows the district login standard, or by using Clever Badges, which are available for K-3 students.
The four categories for applications that you see are:
Instant Login with Rostering Applications
Users will be pre-populated into courses based on PowerSchool schedule and rosters will be kept up-to-date by the nightly sync.
Instant Login Applications
Users can access materials, but may need to be grouped into courses by teachers--not integrated with PowerSchool schedule. These groups will not be updated/adjusted by the nightly sync, so will need to be managed by teachers if rosters change.
Login with Google
Users may need to re-enter their Google credentials (@cpsboe.k12.oh.us for teachers and @cincinnatips.org for students) once they click on the access tile within Clever
Other District Application Login Links
Users will need to know login credentials for the application--this is just a way to keep all of your links in one convenient spot!
You will only have access to those applications for which there are district licenses or for which licenses have been purchased for your building or content area. If you believe you should have access to an application through Clever and do not see it in your portal, please contact the Help Desk at itmhelp@cpsboe.k12.oh.us with details regarding the application needed and for which users the license was purchased.
If you run into any problems with Clever, please contact the Help Desk at 363-0390.
