UPE News Update

Learning is a Social Activity

I came across a wonderful quote from a research article recently:

“Cognitive science tells us that learning is socially constructed and individually integrated; learning therefore requires engaging with other learners, and is an active process for all involved.” (Bolam, McMahon, Stoll, Thomas & Wallace, 2005).

This sums up the link between what brain scientists have discovered and what we do every day at UPE! The deepest learning, relationships, and opportunities happen in person, with systems for ensuring every learner is engaged with every other learner all day long!

It’s not an easy process. A great illustration that we’ve used with children in the past is below. I thought you might enjoy it as well!

Whether we are children or adults, the “Learning Pit” is a wonderful way to be together in the world. Learning hard things together bonds us, deepens our understanding of each other, and cultivates the best forms of wisdom.

LOST & FOUND

As the weather gets cooler in the morning and warm in the afternoon, students are forgetting their jackets on the playground. Our Lost & Found rack in the hallway is filling up. Parents, please drop in and check for lost items and remind kids to take a look for anything they may have last.

PLEASE, MARK ALL ITEMS - COATS, GLOVES, HATS, WATER BOTTLES AND LUNCH BAGS WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME!
