Senior Portraits
Important information: Students can sign up during their lunch on Monday and Tuesday on the Cafeteria Stage. It is first come first serve. There are limited spots. They will be here Oct. 3 and 4. Most importantly, this is not THE official or only days students can take their portraits. This is a courtesy Prestige provides for those with limited transportation and disabilities. They’ve been told since the beginning of summer to visit the Sugar Land studios, and they still can. The deadline is Oct. 29. Please have them go to their website and schedule a visit: https://local.prestigeportraits.com/tx/sugar-land/13801-southwest-freeway.html

Student Spotlights
Esmeralda Avila
Esmeralda is the definition of a friend, she is a freshman student here and she never goes a day without a smile on her face and a positive energy to share in class, lunch or the hallways. Every day she asks myself and her classmates how our days are going, if we are looking forward to anything and always leaves the classroom with a positive goodbye. On Fridays she asks what we are looking forward to on the weekends and on Mondays she asks how our weekends were. But today she really showed me what it means to be a remarkable ranger. When a student in class dropped a container of colored pencils, she was the first student up to help pick up all the loose pencils on the floor. She let that student know it was okay and she'd help. The student looked overwhelmed but when Esmeralda jumped in you could see it just melt away. She embodies school spirit, compassion and friendship.

Dominic Martinez
I'd like to shine some light on Dominic. He has been selling homecoming tickets during all lunches and represented Student Council by himself at Open House. He is a Ranger that can be depended on and always goes out of his way to get the job done. I've also witnessed Dominic going the extra mile by aiding the custodial staff in between lunches. The empathy and compassion he shares amongst his peers is a delight to see. His Ranger Pride shines through and through.
~Trameasha Strickland, Assistant Principal 10th Grade
Lizet Franco
When I think of a Remarkable Ranger, I think of Lizet. She has taken my course since 9th grade and has grown into a leader in my classroom and throughout campus. She is always willing to assist with fundraisers and campus events. Skills USA is lucky to have such a devoted Ranger on the team.

Terry HS Students Awarded with Academic Honors from College Board National Recognition Programs
Terry High School students excelled in College Board assessments and schoolwork to earn these awards, which colleges use to identify academically competitive underrepresented students
Terry High School students have earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. These National Recognition Programs grant underrepresented students with academic honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications and connect students with universities across the country, helping them meaningfully connect to colleges and stand out during the admissions process. Colleges and scholarship programs identify students awarded National African American, Hispanic, Indigenous and/or Rural/Small Town Recognition through College Board’s Student Search Service.
The following student(s) have been awarded recognition (award key below):
- Amanda Rodriguez: NHRA
- Amina Bell: NAARA
- Brodie Garza: NHRA
- Emiliana Aragon: NHRA
- Giovanni Fuentes: NHRA
- Jordis Martinez: NHRA
- Joselyn Galindo: NHRA
- Lynette Carrasco: NHRA
- Nkechinyere Onyirimba: NAARA
Award Key:
• National African American Recognition Award = NAARA
• National Hispanic Recognition Award = NHRA
• National Rural and Small Town Award = NRSTA
• National Indigenous Award = NIA
“We’re thrilled that our students have earned this recognition. We are very proud of them for their achievements in their classrooms and on College Board assessments,” said school principal, Brian Roberson. “These programs help students from underrepresented backgrounds stand out to colleges during admissions.”
Students who may be eligible have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have excelled on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams; and are African American or Black, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, and/or attend school in a rural area or small town.
Eligible students will be invited to apply during their sophomore or junior year and will be awarded at the beginning of the next school year. Students will receive their awards in time to include them on their college and scholarship applications.
“We want to honor the hard work of these students through the College Board National Recognition Programs. This program creates a way for colleges and scholarship programs to connect directly with underrepresented students who they are hoping to reach,” said Tarlin Ray, College Board senior vice president of BigFuture. “We hope the award winners and their families celebrate this prestigious honor and it helps them plan for their big future.”

National Hispanic Heritage Month 2022
This week, I am excited to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month celebration which is celebrated nationally from September 15 through October 15.
Hispanic Heritage Month exists to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. We celebrate those who have contributed to our shared history and championed and inspired all to achieve success.
We are seeking input from our students and staff to offer ideas on potential programs and celebrations to honor Latinx and Hispanic Culture. Please email Principal Roberson if you would like to offer ideas. (brian.roberson@lcisd.org)

Parking Lot Procedures
Please review the revised parking lot diagram to visualize our morning arrival process.
All students and staff using the main parking lot will be issued a parking tag and assigned a parking spot. This campus safety initiative will allow motorists to move more quickly through the parking lot since their daily spot is already reserved.
Parents will release their scholars in front of the gymnasium entrance for students who will be dropped off each morning.
Additionally, please observe our new entrance and exit-only driveways. This will allow vehicles to exit the parking lot more quickly and safely.
Students interested in purchasing a parking pass may receive additional information along with our Parking Application here.

In Case You Missed It: Parent Night Presentation
Terry High School hosted Back to School Parent Night for families on August 11th.
The administrative and counseling teams shared important information for the upcoming school year.
No Outside Deliveries
Terry High School is a closed campus. Scholars must remain on campus from the start of school until the end of school. Scholars are not permitted to leave campus for lunch.
We will not permit scholars to receive outside lunch delivered from delivery services such as Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Door Dash, etc.
This is for the protection of all of our scholars. We cannot have fast food delivery drivers looking for scholar on campus. If food is delivered to campus, we will refuse to accept it.
We welcome you to come and eat lunch with your scholar. Please contact your scholar’s grade level administrator at least 24 hours in advance and ensure you are prepared with the proper identification to receive a visitor’s pass. You will need your ID or Driver’s License. Please only bring lunch for your scholar.
Lamar CISD Clear Bag Policy
As we gear up and prepare for this coming school year, don’t forget to add clear bags to your back-to-school shopping list if you intend on attending any event at Traylor Stadium or the Lamar CISD Natatorium.
LCISD Safety Overview & Standard Response Protocol
Lamar CISD constantly seeks to provide a circle of protection that generates safety and security in all schools and facilities. Controlled access to buildings, visitor registry, crisis communication, employees and first responders are all essential to that cause.
Looking to implement best practices for safety and security, Lamar CISD has introduced the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Created by the Colorado-based I Love You Guys Foundation, this standard simplifies the district’s emergency response—making it a powerful, informative and efficient guide.
The SRP refers to five specific actions in the event of an emergency or crisis. Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter and Hold are the actions students and employees are trained to perform during an emergency. A brief synopsis of each action is below.
Secure – occurs when a threat or hazard is outside of the school building. Students will remain or return inside the building. Staff will help recover students and colleagues outside the building, take roll and increase their situational awareness.
Lockdown – occurs when a threat or hazard is inside the building. Students will stay quiet and out-of-sight. Staff will lock the classroom door, turn off lights, maintain silence and obscured visibility, take roll and wait for first responders to open the door.
Evacuate – occurs when students and staff must move to another location. Students will leave all but cell phones behind, form a single-file line, show hands and be prepared for changes. Staff will lead students to the evacuation location and take roll, if possible.
Shelter – occurs when the need for personal protection is necessary, such as during a tornado or biohazard situation. Students and staff will employ appropriate safety strategies. Teachers will also take roll to account for students.
Hold – occurs when there is a need for students to clear the hallways for issues, such a medical emergency. Students will remain in their classroom until they receive an “all clear” and classes will continue as they normally would.
This protocol helps us maintain a safe learning and working environment for all students and staff.
