What are we learning this week?

Phonics: Latin Morpheme -port

Math: We will begin our topic 10, adding and subtracting Mixed Numbers. We will begin the week by focusing on using manipulatives to help us figure out how to solve our equations and then slowly work our way into solving problems using the basic algorithm. The skills we learned last topic on least common denominator, will be put to good use in solving problems during this topic.

Writing: Last week, we just focused on writing a narrative based on our feelings, people, or places in our life that spark memories. This week, we will choose one of those writing pieces and create a small moment of writing that uses descriptive setting, detailed characters, ad dialogue throughout the writing piece.

Reading: This week we will work on creating constructed responses to a reading. These constructed responses will demonstrate our ability to restate the questions, provide evidence from the text to support our answer, and applying quotes from the text as well. After working on this skill, we will move into some science reading where we will be learning about different types of matter.

Science: We will conduct a few experiments this week that will allow the students to apply the skills they learned about the scientific method. We will also be able to understand mass and that it can not be created or destroyed.

Congratulations to our January Student of the Month: Jeslyn
