SFCS celebrates 26 Years of Growing Together in Faith & Knowledge
Dear SFCS Parents & Friends,
We had a wonderful Feast Day on Tuesday, which began with Mass. The 8th grade crosses (see photos below) were blessed by Fr. Max. At the end of the day, students, family, and friends joined together with their pets for the Pet Blessing. It was a joy to see ducks, a rabbit, dogs, and cats rallied together for this special event.
Our next School Community Mass will be held on Sunday, October 16 at 9:00 a.m. We look forward to having our families and friends join us as we celebrate Mass at St. Francis by the Sea. Students should wear their Mass uniforms. Any student interested in singing in the choir should meet Mrs. Sweeney in the Church by the piano no later than 8:40 a.m.
The Lowcountry Soiree scheduled for Friday, September 30 has been rescheduled for October 21, 2022. If you have already paid for tickets, and the new date will not work in your plans, please let us know and your check will be returned.
I am grateful for the opportunity to be of service to your family! Please let me know when I may be helpful to you.
Wishing you a safe and relaxing three-day weekend.
Yours in Christ,
Andrea Smith, M.Ed., LPC, NCC

PSAT 8/9 Testing for 8th Grade Class - October 13
The 8th grade class will participate in PSAT 8/9 testing on Thursday, October 13 from 8:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. (approximately). The PSAT is a standardized test published by College Board and tests students in 8th and 9th grade on reading, writing, language, and math. By taking the PSAT 8/9, students will learn through their score report, which skills to work on for continued success when preparing for high school and ultimately college.
Please be sure your 8th grade student gets a good night's sleep the night prior and breakfast the morning of the testing. 8th grade students may wear jeans (no rips, holes, or tears) and a SFCS spirit shirt on that day. The class will have testing until approximately 11:15 a.m., followed by a regular day's schedule beginning with 5th period.

St. Francis Catholic School Facebook Page
Our official Facebook page is "St. Francis Catholic School". In an effort to consolidate communication, and have one central Facebook page for SFCS families to find announcements and learn about upcoming school events, the "St. Francis Families (St. Francis Catholic School, Hilton Head Island)" Facebook page is now inactive. As a reminder, the use of St. Francis Catholic School, or St. Francis by the Sea names, logos, etc., must be approved before associating any group with either name or SFCS. We appreciate your cooperation and partnership with this important policy and ask you to contact Mrs. Smith for school related requests, and the SFBTS Parish office for church related requests. Please join our school Facebook page! (scroll down to the bottom of the newsletter and click on link)
Mrs. Troi Hopkins - Learning Center Coordinator
Mrs. Hopkins, Learning Center Coordinator, moved from New England last year and joined the SFCS family working as an interventionist. With over 30 years of experience in education and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, she brings a vast toolbox of resources to help our students thrive. Mrs. Hopkins and her husband have twin children attending Heritage Academy as Seniors. We are happy to have Mrs. Hopkins on the SFCS team to provide support and resources!
PreK and K
Pet Blessing
The PreK and Kindergarten classes brought in their favorite stuffed animal to be blessed on our Feast Day, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Mrs. Burke and Mrs. Anderson had gifted each student a St. Francis of Assisi block which Father Christopher also blessed.
7th Grade - Religion
Fr. Mike was the guest speaker on Thursday, in the 7th grade Religion class. Fr. Mike spoke to the class about St. Francis, our Patron Saint. Thank you, Fr. Mike, for sharing your expertise!
VISUAL ARTS - 5th Grade
Totem Poles
The art of the Northwest Coast Indians is unique when compared with other North American Indian Art. The logical explanation for this uniqueness is that these Indians, seven major tribes altogether, are all Mongolian ancestry. They used the Totem Pole as their substitute for the written word. The 5th grade students designed and built their own totem poles. Each symbol represents, from the top: Religious Belief, Country, State, Family and you. The totem poles may be found in the lobby of the Fine Arts Building and, in the hallway, next to the technology room.
A New Tradition.....8th Grade Crosses
SFCS began a new tradition with this year's 8th grade as the inaugural class creating crosses for the Feast Day Mass of our Patron Saint - St. Francis of Assisi. Each cross was blessed during the Feast Day Mass on October 4th. The crosses will be on display in the SFCS academic building's foyer for the remainder of the year. The 8th graders will receive their cross and diploma during their graduation ceremony in May 2023.
8th Grade Cross Blessing
The 8th grade crosses were blessed by Father Max during the St. Francis of Assisi Feast Day Mass. Each cross was individually created by the students using a glass fusion technique.
Feast Day - Pet Blessing
Thank you to everyone who came to the Pet Blessing with or without their pet(s)! It was a beautiful service in honor of our patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi. Thank you, Father Christopher, for blessing all the beloved pets in our community who were able to attend!
ANNUAL FUND
The annual fund is one of the most important gifts we ask of our St. Francis community. Gifts to the St. Francis Catholic School Annual Fund provide students access to opportunities that distinguish the SFCS educational, spiritual, and social experiences. Your gift to the SFCS Annual Fund today, will make an impact on the lives of many young people at our school.
