SAFETY MESSAGE:
Today, Monday, February 20, 2023, the Zion Police Department received an anonymous call alleging a potential threat with a weapon directed towards Zion Central Middle School. In taking action, the Police Department enacted presence at the school, secured the building, and completed a thorough facility sweep. As the District was closed today in honor of President’s Day, no students nor staff were on the property or in the building.
After further investigation the Police Department has reported there was no information to suggest this was a credible threat. Video surveillance confirmed no individual was at nor near Zion Central Middle School when the threatening call was made to the Zion Police Department.
This call was also reported to the Illinois State Police Terrorism Information Center. It was reported back that Zion was among several other Illinois agencies that received nearly identical calls around the same time. It was also reported that this call matched other hoax calls received across the US in recent months.
The Zion Police Department detectives are still following up with several investigative leads and will update our district as needed. In precaution, the Zion Police Department will provide patrolled units around all of our District 6 schools throughout the day tomorrow and moving forward as deemed necessary to ensure the safety & security of our faculty, staff and our students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jim McKay
Interim Superintendent

Atentamente,
Dr. Jim McKay
