New and Improved: Supply Pick Up
Free Meals Available
The district is participating in the Summer Food Service Meals Program until further notice or until 12/31/2020 depending on further guidance from United States Department of Agriculture.
Effective immediately, all children 18 years and younger are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Meals do not have to be pre ordered, children do not have to be present to pick up meals and no identification is necessary. You do not need an approved meal assistance application to receive meals.
Distribution will be on Monday and Thursday and will be near the front door area at the high school from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Monday meal bundle will include three days of meals and Thursday will include four days of meals.
If you have questions or concerns please email us at hassenlm@haslett.k12.mi.us
We are looking forward to providing meals to your children.
**Please note, we will still be collecting meal assistance applications. It is helpful for other areas within the school district other than just meal service.

District Survey Sent To Families-Choose Your Child's Learning Model
What is Hybrid Learning?
Hybrid learning is a combination of in-person instruction and virtual instruction. In this model, all students would be assigned a cohort (Blue or Gold-Go Vikes!) that would attend school on different days of the week. Wednesdays would be a day of asynchronous instruction while we deep clean classrooms between cohorts of students.
Cohort A: M/T Attends school in person
W-F Online (virtual) instruction
Cohort B: M-W Online (virtual) instruction
TH/F Attends school in person
100% Online: M/T/W/TH/F Online (virtual) instruction
How Will You Keep Our Kids Safe During In-person instruction?
The number of students in each classroom will depend on how many families choose 100% Virtual Instruction. Of the families that choose in-person instruction, we will divide families into a cohort A and cohort B, which will place no more than 1/2 a normal class at school at a time. By reducing the number of students in each classroom students will be able to socially distance during learning. Throughout the school day movement around the building will be limited. Students will eat in the classroom setting and play with students in their class outside for recess.
Will My Children Be In Different Cohorts?
No, all HPS building administrators are working together to keep families in the same cohort. If a mistake is made please let us know and we will correct it.
Masks
Masks will be required to be worn at all times during the school day including, but not limited to riding the bus, in the building, and at recess. Students will be able to take their mask off to eat and during several controlled mask breaks outside while socially distanced (not during recess).
Hearing and Vision Screening
As a result of the Michigan Public Health Code, the Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) is required to provide vision and hearing screenings for children residing in our community.
Upon enrollment in school, parents or guardians are expected to provide the school with a certificate of hearing and vision screening, or statement of exemption. With the closures of school sites in March 2020, the ICHD Vision and Hearing Technicians were unable to complete screenings for children during our Kindergarten Roundup, which was scheduled in April 2020. .
As schools transition to an online presence at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, the ICHD expects to be able to provide both vision and hearing screenings later in the year, particularly in light of the lack of kindergarten readiness screenings due to the shutdown.
The ICHD awaits formal guidance from the state, and will reevaluate on an ongoing basis to determine if they can go back to traditional screening opportunities, utilizing strategies and supports to keep both children and staff healthy. However, as you know, all plans are changeable during this time.
As we learn more, we will let parents and guardians know.
