Spring 2022 Field Trip
The Society is sponsoring a field trip on Friday, March 25 to the Gault Archaeological Site, just north of Austin.
The Gault Site is a protected 40-acre site with abundant evidence of past human occupation. Between 1999 and 2002, 1.4 million artifacts were recovered and a unique stone floor was discovered, as well as 100+ engraved stones, amongst the earliest art in the Americas.
The tour is scheduled from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. We plan to car pool from Old Town Helotes, leaving at 7:00 am, and will leave the Gault Site at 2:00 pm. Bring a bagged lunch. The Society will provide water bottles.
This is a walking tour that is 1-1/2 miles roundtrip—an easy walk, but a fairly long one. A four-person golf cart is available on the site that can take you anyplace the rest of the tour goes. Please let us know if you need the cart.
Cost is $20 per person and includes the entry fee to the site. If you are interested in attending, contact us now at info@historicalsocietyofhelotes.org. We will begin accepting payments online in February and at the February General Meeting.
