Language Arts and Team 7-1 Update
December 2015
Happy Winter from Team 7-1!
Happy December! I am very happy and shocked that it hasn't snowed yet! I hope this doesn't come back to bite me for saying that, but it is so nice to have the students in school without the stress of snow December normally brings! Here's your Language Arts
Update for December 2015! Please note that I have included some Team 7-1 news as well.
Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy winter season and new year!
Sincerely,

Language Arts Update
Next week, students will be learning about upstanders and bystanders. They will be watching the film called, A Class Divided. This is a documentary of a teacher's social experiment she conducted in her classroom to help students better understand what it is like to be treated unequally. She separated students by eye color and told her students that one eye color was better than the other. She records the students reactions during this time, discusses the results, and teaches students the dangers of favoritism, power, and inequality.
We discuss this clip and what it means to be a bystander in these types of situations and what it means to be an upstander. Watch the full clip here if you are interested. *Please note, students haven't watched this yet.
Lastly, students will be looking at some propaganda. They will learn how to analyze and deconstruct messages negative propaganda displays.
When we get back from winter break, we will be reading The Diary of Anne Frank.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
