Happy Winter from Team 7-1!

Hello All,

Happy December! I am very happy and shocked that it hasn't snowed yet! I hope this doesn't come back to bite me for saying that, but it is so nice to have the students in school without the stress of snow December normally brings! Here's your Language Arts

Language Arts Update

Students have been working diligently this second marking period! They are currently learning about the historical background of the Holocaust. They have been working on a Webquest all week to better understand what happened during this tragic time. If you are interested in exploring a bit more about the Holocaust, check out our Webquest here.

Next week, students will be learning about upstanders and bystanders. They will be watching the film called, A Class Divided. This is a documentary of a teacher's social experiment she conducted in her classroom to help students better understand what it is like to be treated unequally. She separated students by eye color and told her students that one eye color was better than the other. She records the students reactions during this time, discusses the results, and teaches students the dangers of favoritism, power, and inequality.

We discuss this clip and what it means to be a bystander in these types of situations and what it means to be an upstander. Watch the full clip here if you are interested. *Please note, students haven't watched this yet.

Lastly, students will be looking at some propaganda. They will learn how to analyze and deconstruct messages negative propaganda displays.

When we get back from winter break, we will be reading The Diary of Anne Frank.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Team 7-1 Winter Celebration!

Here on Team 7-1, we are all about celebrating anything we can. Before winter break, we have some team building activities planned for the kids to enjoy. On December 17th, all our students will be participating in a Winter Sing-Along, a competition that we have designed for students to participate with their homeroom during Flex time. We have also planned a door decorating contest for homerooms during the morning of December 21st. Students are asked, but not required to bring materials from home to help contribute to this contest. We are excited for these events. We hope to kick off the winter season on the right foot! Ask your students for more information if you are interested!
