TSI ASSESSMENT
RESULTS FOR TMS CHOIR @ UIL CONCERT AND SIGHT READING CONTEST
The Tison Middle School Choirs participated in the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest on March 4th and 5th.
CONCERT PORTION OF CONTEST
This portion of the contest required the choirs to prepare three selections chosen from the UIL Prescribed Music List and at least one of those had to be performed A cappella -- without accompaniment. A panel of three TMAA qualified judges used the guidelines stated in the UIL Constitution to give feedback and ratings for each choir. The ratings system is as follows:
- 1st Division rating - Superior
- 2nd Division rating - Excellent
- 3rd Division rating - average
- 4th Division rating - below average
- 5th division rating - poor
SIGHT READING PORTION OF CONTEST
This portion of the contest required the choirs to each perform a selection of newly published music that the choir had not seen or rehearsed before. They were given an allotted amount of time to practice speaking the music using our preferred method of sight reading. The choir had to sing the selection A cappella without help from the director. A panel of three different TMAA judges critiqued and gave ratings to the choir using the same system used for concert.
The Tison Tenor Bass Choir earned an overall rating of a 2ND DIVISION for their concert and earned 1ST DIVISION from all three judges in sight reading.
The Tison Varsity Treble Choir earned an overall rating of a 1ST DIVISION for their concert and earned an overall rating of a 2ND DIVISION in sight reading.
The Tison Non Varsity Treble Choir earned 1ST DIVISION ratings from all three judges in Concert and 1ST DIVISION ratings from all 3 judges in sight reading. This earned the choir the very coveted award of UIL Sweepstakes!
I am completely honored to have been the director of these wonderfully talented students for these outstanding performances! If you know one of these choir students who participated, please congratulate them!
