No School on Monday
There is no school scheduled for Monday, January 15, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
Please see the information below in order to be part of our annual Day of Service.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day- January 15
The cities and school districts of Berkley, Clawson, and Royal Oak are proud to announce their joint MLK Day event. On Monday, January 15, you are all invited to honor Dr. King through learning and action. The commemoration, “A Day On, Not a Day Off,” will begin with a donation drive at Royal Oak Middle School (709 N Washington Ave, Royal Oak, MI 48067) at 8:30 am.
- From 8:30-9:30 am, guests can enjoy breakfast, make signs for the Freedom Walk, and participate in volunteer services and hands-on activities.
- At 9:30, we'll have a welcome presentation in the Kimball Auditorium and watch a video produced by our students talking with other students from all three schools about what service and community mean to them.
- At 10 am, guests can join in on a freedom walk through the Royal Oak Middle School neighborhood. The first 300 guests will receive a commemorative event button. All ages and members of the community are invited to attend.
Following the walk, the public is invited to participate in service projects at Royal Oak Middle School and at community locations, including donation sorting, blanket making for those in need, and card making for educators.
Yearbook Candids & Group Pictures
A photographer from Kaiser Studios will be at Upton on Tuesday, January 17, to take pictures for our yearbook. The photographer will be visiting classes and take pictures of students who are participating in clubs.
End of 2nd Marking Period
Our 2nd Marking Period is ending on Thursday, January 18. Report Cards will be available to view online starting Friday, January 26.
No School on Friday
There will be no school on Friday, January 19. This is a Records Day for our Staff.
Welcome, Mr. Andrzejewski!
Tate Andrzejewski is stepping in as our new Lead Custodian. He is replacing Mr. Chris who received a new position within Oakland Schools. We are very excited to have Mr. Tate join us at Upton! Please help to make him feel welcomed!
Welcome Back, Ms. Seabaugh!
Samantha Seabaugh will now be our Building Substitute. Ms. Seabaugh was serving as a student teacher in Mrs. Van Every's class. We are very happy to have you back at Upton!
Homework Club
Enrollment for Kindergarten/Developmental Kindergarten (DK) 2024-25 School Year
Royal Oak Schools is pleased to welcome children and their families to kindergarten. Kindergarten enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year begins on Thursday, February 1, 2024. District-wide enrollment for all kindergarten programs, including Developmental Kindergarten, is processed through our Central Enrollment Office.
All enrollments will be virtual including uploading of the required documentation to the pre-enrollment. Please see the "How to Enroll" portion of the Enrollment website for more information. To watch a short video regarding the enrollment process, click here.
Elementary transfer requests for priority consideration will be accepted between February 1 - February 29, 2024. Please make sure to mark your calendar for Kindergarten Information Night on January 31, 2024, which will be in person at each elementary building.
Kindergarten Age Requirements
A resident child must be five (5) years of age on or before September 1st in order to be eligible to attend kindergarten.
If a child is not five (5) years of age by the September 1st enrollment eligibility date, but will be five (5) years of age no later than December 1st, the parent/guardian may still enroll the child in kindergarten. The parent must notify the school district, in writing, prior to the beginning of the school year. Notification, by way of a completed Kindergarten Age Waiver, must be received in order for a child born between September 1 and December 1 to be enrolled in kindergarten.

Royal Oak Parent Advisory Committee
The Royal Oak Parent Advocacy Committee (ROPAC) is our school district's Parent Advisory Committee - a group made up of parents/caregivers of students with IEPs or 504 Plans, those that want to learn more, those that think their student may benefit from special education services. ROPAC sincerely welcomes any parent or caregiver with a student(s) in Royal Oak schools to join us in our mission to make this a destination for students receiving special education services. For our January meeting, We will be joined by Megan McCoy from Special Education Mediation Services. Come to learn about the wide range of FREE services they offer, for a variety of scenarios!

PTA Bagel Sale
There is a correction to the Bagel Form that has been sent out. All forms must be turned into the school by Monday, January 22. Bagels will be delivered on Friday, January 26.
Blessings in a Backpack
"Blessings in a Backpack” is a program designed to provide students on the free and reduced lunch program with enough food for three meals a day during the weekends. This program, administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester, is active in Royal Oak Schools. If you agree to take part in this program during the school year, your child will receive a bag filled with food for the weekend. A bag of food will be put in your child's locker for take home on Fridays. The simple meals may include food like macaroni and cheese, beef ravioli, canned fruit, granola bars, soups, juice and other items. Students will receive a bag every week.
If you would like to have your child participate in this program, fill out the form below and mail it to the board office at 800 Devillen, Royal Oak, MI 48073, or just hit submit on this form. Please be sure to indicate on the form if you child has any food allergies. If your child has a food allergy, you as the parent are responsible for checking all food labels when the food arrives home. Royal Oak Schools, as well as Blessings in a Backpack, will not be held responsible for any accidental food allergen exposure.
