CFNC College Redirection Pool
If your original plan for college has shifted, or if you are starting the application process a little later, using this resource will provide you with information about many different colleges and will help you make the most informed decision about your next step!
Students create a profile through CFNC with information that includes GPA, test scores, and anticipated major. This profile is then available to colleges and universities throughout North Carolina. Colleges can reach out to the students who meet their specific admissions requirements and recruit them to attend. When recruited, students will also be given information about the financial aid that could potentially be awarded to them from each college.
Last Dollar Grant
The Last Dollar Grant will be live in your Crosby Scholars Portal SOON. Below you will find the list of documents you will need to apply! You will receive communication from Crosby Scholars when the LDG is open to apply.
Crosby Scholars who complete the Program Senior year with a cumulative weighted GPA of 2.0+ are eligible to apply for a Last Dollar Grant (LDG) for up to four years.
In order to be considered for a LDG, seniors must complete all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Senior Program. Students must also demonstrate not only financial need but also remaining need after the school of choice has awarded aid. To determine eligibility, the Crosby Scholars staff completes a need analysis on each scholar individually. Even if the LDG is not awarded the first year, scholars can reapply three times.
Students applying for a LDG must complete the application and upload the following documents in their Crosby Scholars Student Portal:
1. A copy of the letter of admission from the institution the student will attend
2. A copy of the financial aid award letter from the institution
3. A copy of the entire Student Aid Report (SAR)
Follow Your College on Social Media
Now is a good time to add your colleges to your social media timelines if you haven't already! Most college and universities use Instagram, Facebook, and even Snapchat to keep their students in the loop of exciting events and opportunities happening in their school. By following them now before the school year begins, you will be in the loop of upcoming events, have a better understanding of their posting schedules, and begin your networking with your future peers. Who knows, you might even be featured in their posts if you tag your college with your acceptance letter!
Consider a Pre-Orientation Program
Are you interested in getting a head start in meeting new college peers, mastering your campus, and moving-in to your dorm early from the rest of the incoming first-years? You might be interested in participating in a Pre-Orientation program!
Not to be confused with Freshman Orientation, which every first-year college student is required to attend. Pre-Orientation is optional and is exactly what it sounds like- a program you can attend before orientation. Thus, since it is optional, it usually comes with a fee. Depending on your college and the available programs, pre-orientation would allow you to move onto campus even sooner so by the time Freshman Orientation begins you would already have a head start from everyone else. Pre-orientations are also topic-specific or extracurricular- some examples of pre-orientation programs include book clubs, camping, marching band, etc.
Check your college website for more information about the pre-orientation programs they offer!
And They Were Roommates!
- sleep patterns
- study habits
- cleanliness (are you more tidy or messy?)
- sociability
Addressing living habits and communicating with your roommates begins here! It may be awkward at first, but it is important to be straightforward to avoid miscommunications with the person you will be sharing a living space.
National Candidates' Reply Date
The National Candidates Reply Date is May 1!! When you have confirmed your enrollment plans, notify the other colleges from which you have received an offer of admission that you will not attend. Those colleges can then offer admission to students on their wait list.
Celebrating You!
Over the next several months we want to highlight you and your accomplishments! We need your help by submitting your photo, enrollment plans, and any scholarship highlights to seniorprogram@crosbyscholars.org! Be sure to check out the Crosby Scholars Instagram page to see yourself or your peers highlighted for all that you have accomplished!
Don't Move and Forget to Tell Us Where You Went!!!
