Isaiah Smith saved his best mound performance of the season for his last.
The sophomore hurled a gem Tuesday night shutting out Arlington Seguin on two-hits in a 4-0 District 9-5A road win.
“Isaiah pitched his best game all year,” Burleson coach Daniel Bruce said. “He was very efficient at 69 pitches.”
Smith, struck out four, walked one and hit two in going the distance for the win.
Smith out-dueled Seguin’s Kaden Morton. The junior tossed 5.1 innings allowing two runs on five hits. He fanned nine, walked three and hit one batter.
“Morton pitched really well but we worked some walks and came up with some hits when we needed them,” Bruce said.
The Elks scored once in the fourth inning on an RBI-double by Carson Hallack.
Burleson went up 2-0 in the sixth on a John Lopez run-scoring single.
Kayden Cassidy put the Elks up 3-0 a two-out RBI triple in seventh and scored another run on an error in the same inning. “Cassidy had a big exclamation point with an RBI-triple to add an insurance run late,” Bruce said.
