Week 6
Week 6 Notes
This week, we saw what could be the last of our nice weather fade away. It's time to break out the coats, hats, and gloves and get ready for the chilly weather. Even though it's getting colder, we still get the students outside each day for recess. At the middle school level, recess is a very important time. Not only are students able to exercise, but they are also learning to problem-solve, socialize appropriately, and deepen their friendships. While we certainly supervise the students, we also believe it's important to foster some level of independence in social situations.
Question of the Week
This week, I encourage you to talk with your child about recess. October is typically a time when the luster of the new year has worn off and we need to revisit expectations. Ask your child "Who do you play with on the playground?" and "What do you do when you're outside?" Hopefully, this can lead to a discussion about socializing and making the right choice with peers.
