Heritage Bears
November 2016
Principal's Message
Dear Heritage Families,
We are now into the second quarter of the school year and Parent/Teacher Conferences have been completed successfully. Thank you for attending your child’s conference and partnering with the school to ensure your child is successful in every area! It’s hard to believe, but in just a few weeks the Thanksgiving season will be upon us. I think it’s important to stop and reflect on how fortunate we are to be a part of the Wentzville School District. Our District is a model of excellence and provides the opportunity for every student to excel academically. I am thankful for the resources our District provides to sustain student achievement. Of course, sustaining student achievement wouldn’t be possible without the amazing support we receive from our parents and community!
I want to remind you that one extremely important factor in determining student achievement is a student’s attendance. The amount of time your child spends in the classroom interacting with their teacher and peers is crucial to their success. Heritage Elementary has a total of 176 school days scheduled this year. Our students should miss no more than 17.6% days of school, excused or unexcused, to meet the State of Missouri’s minimum expectation of 90%. Our goal at Heritage is for every one of our students to have 95% percent attendance or better for the school year!
We have several fun incentives to reward students for their great attendance. The Attendance Champions program recognizes the class in each grade level with the highest attendance percentage at the end of each month. We announce the classes over the intercom, provide them with coupons for a free McDonald’s smoothies, and they get to proudly display the attendance bear in the room. Students who have perfect attendance for the quarter, semester, and entire school year are also recognized with a Perfect Attendance certificate. Students who achieve perfect attendance at the end of each semester will earn a special incentive prize! I am thankful for the support each of our Heritage families provide our school!
“It’s a GREAT day to be a BEAR!”

Important Information about Dismissal and Transportation
Changes to your child’s dismissal/transportation plans need to be communicated to the teacher or the main office. If you need to make an occasional transportation change (car rider instead of the bus, etc.) you must send a note to your child’s teacher. If that is not possible, you may call the office on the day of the change before 2:00 p.m. so office staff has adequate time to notify your child’s teacher. You must provide a note or call each day that you want your child to go home in a different manner than usual.
Regular school attendance is critical to your child’s success at school. If you are picking up your child early from school, please visit the office prior to 3:00 p.m. Students will not be dismissed from classrooms between 3:00 p.m. and 3:20 p.m. in order to maintain a secure environment for school dismissal. It is essential that you sign your child out of school through the office any time they are leaving before the normal end of the day. The office will call your child from their classroom. Photo ID will be required for everyone signing out students. When calling the office to notify that someone other than a legal guardian is picking up your child, that person must be on your child’s pick-up list prior to the telephone call.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation with these extremely important tasks. If you have any questions about this information please feel free to give the office a call.
All are invited to our Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, November 11th. Please be sure to RSVP to your child’s teacher or with the main office.
