November 8, 2019
Colts,
This short school week was action packed at CMS. The week began with our 7th grade football team finishing up the season with a perfect 8-0 record. Our Colts won the district and zone (GCISD, Southlake and Coppell) championship! If you would like your own Colts Championship shirt, or any other Colt gear, click on the store link here. This week's four-game sweep in football concluded our fall boys/girls athletics season on a very high note with five district championships coming home to CMS!
We are eagerly awaiting the opening of our front entrance and vestibule area. Below you will find detailed information about the upcoming transition to our new front entrance. All procedures with campus visits and drop offs (including lunches) will be changing so please be sure to be ready to make some adjustments to your routine when visiting CMS. We are front loading information to you below in preparation for the pending transition that will be happening very soon. Thank you in advance for your patience and adjustment to the upcoming procedures.
Just think, there are only two more weeks until Thanksgiving break. Enjoy your weekend!

Vestibule - New Front Entrance Coming Soon!
We have some great news, our new front entrance and vestibule area is almost complete! We anticipate officially opening the new front entrance within the next week. The front will be located on the east side, big parking lot area near the marquee, pictured below.
There will be a new security process for ALL visitors beginning with the opening of our new front entry. It is very important that you bring your Driver's License or Government ID when you plan on entering the campus. Below is a step-by-step short video that we need everyone to view to be familiar with this new process.
Please be on the lookout for an email update regarding the official opening of the new entrance. At that time, visitors will no longer be able to enter the building from the south side (Bogart Dr.). We are very excited for the upcoming completion of this phase of construction!
Lunches
When the new front entrance/vestibule is complete, we will no longer be able to accommodate planned daily lunches being dropped off for students due to space limitations and new security procedure. Students will not be allowed into the secured vestibule area for security purposes. You are still welcome to check in with the front office and have lunch with your child.
We request that all students either bring a lunch with them to school or purchase in the cafeteria as a part of their daily routine. With limited space availability in our new vestibule, drop off space will be limited to special circumstances only. We have added reminder information below on cafeteria information. Our cafeteria choices continue to expand and have been a big hit with our Colts this year under the direction of our new lead district Chef. We know that this will be an adjustment for some, but appreciate your assistance in making this new transition happen for the safety and security of our students.

October Students of the Month
Counselor Corner (Week of November 11 - November 15 )
8th Grade 4 Year Planning for High School
CMS counselors have been meeting with 8th grade advisory classes to help students select their core classes. They will soon begin meeting with 8th grade students individually to help students select their electives and their endorsement to complete their 4 year plans before Christmas break. After students have had their individual meetings with their counselor and completed their 4 year plan, parents will be emailed and asked to review the plan, request changes, and sign off on both the 4 year plan and endorsement. Then in January, counselors from both high schools will come to CMS to meet with our 8th graders.
8th Grade Parents,
Please review the PowerPoint presentation and documents linked below with your student and help him/her select his/her high school courses and endorsement prior to meeting with counselors. This will help ensure that your child gets the courses that best meet his/her needs and that courses are aligned with his/her future college and career goals. We do want to emphasize that we are creating a “plan” and selecting an endorsement that can be changed throughout high school - we know that it is unlikely that middle school students know what they want to take for all 4 years of high school. The most important thing is that you select the 9th grade core classes and electives that you want because these can not be changed after high school counselors meet with 8th graders in the spring semester.

Cell Phones
As we told students last week, we have asked our teachers to begin strictly enforcing our cell phone policy as it was communicated to the students at the beginning of the year. As partners of CMS, we could also use your help reinforcing our school cell phone policy with your Colt at home.
1. In no way are our students required to have a cell phone. All work can be done with the technology that they have been provided via their school issued laptop. Also, if a student needs to make a call they can use the phones on campus.
2. Our campus policy is that cell phones are NOT to be out unless specifically given permission by a staff member on campus. Exceptions to this are during the last 15 minutes of their lunch (with permission), and during passing periods to allow for quick check-ins on any important information that they may be needing from home (ride home etc.). SnapChat is never permitted at CMS.
As always, we encourage you to monitor your child's phone for their safety and protection. Thank you for partnering with us to help make CMS the BEST!
