Hello Parents,
Thank you for attending my Coffee and Conversation this past week. If you missed the conversation here is a copy of the presentation. Also, if someone you know isn't receiving campus or district eNews. Please share the information below with them.
Only one parent/guardian email address is gathered upon registration
This is the email address we use to send electronic communication from the school and district
Parents/guardians can subscribe to district eNews via the RRISD website
Lastly, as a community we raised $1657.62 for our Coins for Classrooms drive for schools affected by Hurricane Harvey. Thank you for your support in this endeavor.
Have a great week.
Raptor System
Round Rock ISD is pleased to announce that we are updating the Raptor Visitor Management System in all district schools. The District has been using the Raptor System to track visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools, providing us with a safer environment for our students and staff.
The updated process and system will begin at all schools during the week of October 9th. You will need to scan your ID using the Raptor System even if you have done so in the past. Upon entering a district building, visitors will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID, which will be scanned into the system. The Raptor System checks to ensure that registered sex offenders are not entering our buildings. Note that the Raptor System only scans the visitor's name, date of birth, and photo for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. Additional visitor data from the ID is not gathered nor accessible by users, and the system is not connected to any other organization such as the Department of Motor Vehicles.
International Festival
The 2017 Caraway PTA International Festival will be celebrated on October 19th 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Get ready for a fun-filled evening with our Caraway families. We come together to share and celebrate the diverse cultures and countries represented at our school. There will be games, music and food to share. Learn about various cultures with us and travel around the world in our campus.
So far we have 12 countries signed up but we are looking for MORE! Participation is easy and requires little effort!!!! Lot of miracles happen at Caraway only because of our wonderful VOLUNTEERS. We are looking for volunteers to participate and / or lead countries. If you are interested to represent your country, please contact us.
Lets join together and make Caraway a wonderful community for our kids.
If you have any questions or would like to VOLUNTEER at the event please contact our wonderful chairs, Mirna Carrillo at mirna.pcarrillo@gmail.com or Hanna Horsey at hannapog@gmail.com.
Since this wonderful festival falls on a wonderful event Diwali celebrated by many South Asian countries, we are planning to have a small 10 min special Diwali celebration at school as well on the same evening. If you are interested in having your kid perform in it (dance, music or any other art form) or if any other countries are interested to showcase other art forms, we can all celebrate it together, please contact gai3shan@gmail.com.

Tribes Weekly Agreement - Perserverance
If we are to prepare students to succeed in life, not just in school, it is clear that we need to be sure students learn to respond to adversity. The first step is being transparent about the need for grit and perseverance.
As parents, we should have frequent discussions with our children about the importance of these skills, and teach them to react constructively to a setback and then evaluate and re-plan if necessary. Here are some tips for fostering perseverance and grit in children, whether in the classroom, at home, or elsewhere:
- Regularly encourage children to try new things.
- Adjust the degree of perseverance needed.
- Share some instances when you’ve needed perseverance and grit to accomplish a difficult task.
- Be overt. Tell them that they are working on perseverance skills and let them know that struggle and failure are likely. Knowing that they are meant to struggle makes it much easier to deal with.
- Be there for them when they do struggle or fail.
- Encourage them. Don’t reward or congratulate them only for achievement. Recognize effort and perseverance as well.
