Important Update - Hybrid Model
Dear Encinitas Union School District Families and Staff,
I hope you are all well and settled into the second week of distance learning. I am so proud of the incredible work of our teachers and staff in launching this unique school year. This week, San Diego County Public Health adjusted the public health orders to allow for in person instruction beginning as soon as September 1st provided that the positive COVID-19 case rate continues to remain lower than the threshold of 100 cases per 100,000 population. This is very encouraging news.
We are now preparing for the careful return of students to our campuses after a transition period to allow families and staff to adjust schedules and learning models. Our hybrid model will begin on Monday, September 21st. For more information on our hybrid model, review the link. Students will be placed in stable cohorts on an A schedule (In person full day learning on Monday and Wednesday and at home learning on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday half day) or a B schedule (In person full day learning on Tuesday and Thursday and at home learning on Monday, Wednesday and Friday half day). Class sizes on in person days will be from 9 students to a maximum of 16 where our class size is 32. This will allow for maximum physical distancing and intensive in person instruction. The small numbers allow for more personalized and small group instruction. From a cleaning perspective, rooms can be sanitized between cohorts and deep cleaning may be done on Fridays.
On September 4th, families will receive their A or B schedule placement. These schedules have been extremely complex to create and special education, related services and siblings were prioritized. Our principals and staff have worked hard to put together the most balanced schedules possible so there is not flexibility to make changes. Additionally, on September 4th families will receive ASPIRE information and Cloud Campus information. We know some families may not be ready to return to in person instruction and some families in Cloud may have an interest in hybrid. A form to request to transfer to the Cloud Campus or return to in person instruction from Cloud Campus will be available. These requests will be accommodated based on space availability.
We have received many questions, so a thorough review of hybrid model and information related to our Re-Openings Plans is included in the video message in this update. Please also see the link to the Encinitas Union School District Re-Opening Plan pdf. for a detailed look at safety protocols. You may also visit our website at www.eusd.net for additional information.
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
Superintendent
