Class of 2020 Post Commencement Ceremony Information
For Immediate Release:Cape Cod Tech Class of 2020 Graduation
June 5, 2020 – Harwich, MA –
Cape Cod Regional Technical High School held the Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2020 on Thursday, June 4, 2020, at the Wellfleet Drive-In. The graduating class consists of 142 seniors from the towns of Barnstable, Brewster, Chatham, Dennis, Eastham, Harwich, Mashpee, Orleans, Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet, and Yarmouth. Commencement speakers included W. Henry Komar (Class President), Eleanor Buskey (Co-Valedictorian), Mark Gorman (Co-Valedictorian), Robert Sanborn (Superintendent) and William Terranova (Principal). (Links to copies of speeches below.)The Honorary Commencement Address was delivered by Mark Ayala Class of 1979 who has worked for over 30 years for Cape Cod Tech and will be retiring this June.
The event was held at the Wellfleet Drive-In Theater with permission from the Wellfleet Board of Health utilizing the state health guidelines mandated for Drive-In Theaters and DESE requirements for graduation ceremonies. Mr. John Vincent owner of the Wellfleet Drive-In and Cinema donated the use of the facility to honor the graduates of Cape Cod Tech.

Below is information shared with families. This will help gain a better understanding of how the ceremony will work.
Students and their families must stay in their car during the Graduation Ceremony.
Restroom breaks will be permitted but social distancing and masks must be worn.
Graduation Ceremony will be streamed either on the website or via Facebook Live.
Graduates should wear their cap and gown.
Families and grads are encouraged to decorate their cars.
No large trucks or cargo tops, please. These will block those behind you. Please be courteous.
No extra-long cars like limousines. They will block the lane that people drive through at Graduation.
Vehicles will pull in headlights towards the screen.
No vehicles may leave the graduate parking area until graduation ceremony is complete.
7:00 Gates Open:
- Graduates will have placard (8 1/2 x 14) on the windshield with their name on it. This is their ticket to enter the graduate area.
- Graduates must be with their families unless prior arrangements were made with Mr. Terranova or Mr. Roberts. In other words, no graduates may arrive alone in a car unless you have spoken to Mr. T or Mr. Roberts.
- Graduates and family members will drive and park in the first 8-9 rows.
- One usher at the end of each row will have information on who is to park in each row.
- There will be a placard with the graduate's name hung by a rope from each soundpost, cars to park in front of the placard.
- Guests will park in the last 5-7 rows. Guest will have a rearview mirror hanger displaying guest
- 1 car every other space, guest or graduate. Each space marked
- Cars will park in between sound poles.
- All guests must stay in their car unless they need to use the restroom.
- Cars will be asked to keep interior lights off during the ceremony. At certain points certain individuals may be asked to turn on their interior lights if possible.
Gates open at 7 pm.
All Graduates must arrive by 8:00.
The Graduate's Parking Area will close at 8:05 pm.
Only cars with tickets will be admitted. Teacher/Staff member will check tickets at the gate.
There are two types of tickets. Tickets and Commencement Programs will be mailed to graduates on May 20th.
1 Ticket will be placard with Graduates name on it (Assigned parking spots dependent on the name.)
1 Guest ticket will be a rearview mirror hanging placard noting guest ticket that will be numbered. No duplicate numbers will be permitted to enter. If duplicates exist, both vehicles will be asked to leave.
- Students and their families must stay in their vehicles.

8:50- 9:25 Graduate Names and Diplomas delivered to cars
9:30 Coronation March plays continuously as grads leave the ceremony.
Guests are invited to leave after graduates and their car with family members leave.
Important Health Requirement For All Attendees
Any graduate, their family, school personnel, and others who may attend who may be feeling sick, are exhibiting any of the following symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell), or have potentially been exposed to someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, they should not attend the graduation ceremony. A potential exposure means having household contact or having close contact (within 6 feet) with an individual with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 for a prolonged period of time (over 15 minutes) while the person is symptomatic or 48 hours before symptoms developed.
Persons who are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 according to the Centers for Disease Control (e.g., due to age or underlying conditions) should be discouraged from attending the graduation ceremony.
Attendance must be limited to graduates and their immediate family members only. Families have been signed up in advance of the graduation, and only those who have tickets may attend. Children under the age of 5, older adults, and those with vulnerable health conditions should be discouraged from attending.
Face Coverings
- All attendees must wear face coverings before, during, and after the ceremony if outside their vehicle or in the bed of their pick-up truck. The only exceptions are when a person is unable to wear a face covering or mask because of a medical or other disabling condition.
- For children between ages 2 and 5, the wearing of a face covering or mask is at the discretion of the child’s parent or guardian. Children under the age of 2 should not wear a face covering or mask. Children under the age of 5 are discouraged from attending the graduation ceremony.
- Any person who refuses to wear a face covering or mask without a valid justification may be denied entry.
Ceremony: Pre, During and Post
- There can be no communal gathering/reception either before or after the graduation.
- No food or drink is allowed.
- No hugging or handshaking should occur.
- Individuals must promptly depart the premises in an orderly fashion after the ceremony is over following the directions of school officials.
