Monday Memo
October 28-November 1
Staff Meeting Follow-up
Behavior Referrals
Here's What-observations (no inferences)
- Most referrals on Wednesdays
- Most referrals from PK
- Most referrals during the lunch recess times
- Most referrals were for physical aggression
- Most referrals were from classroom behaviors
- No bathroom incidents-do we need to monitor the bathrooms more carefully?
So What-surprises, thoughts, deductions, inferences, questions, etc.
- PK students are learning expectations of what it looks like, sounds like to be a student
- Hallway referrals were not high-have been working on this a lot and have been consistent as a building
- No school on Wednesdays...hmmm ;)
- No surprise that many of the physical aggression behavior referrals are taking place on the playground during lunch recess. How can we get our lunch recess aides to get support and feel empowered?
- What one teacher might enter as a referral another teacher might handle in his/her classroom-How do we consistently enter data?
Now What-Next Steps
- Review/reteach lessons about playground expectations
- Do more social-emotional activities on Wednesdays to help decrease behaviors
- Input behavior referrals on a consistent basis-if they aren't entered, we can't use the data to make informed decisions about how to combat behaviors.
- Clarify what types of behaviors can be entered for a behavior referral
Answers to Clarifying Questions
- What types of behaviors do I enter? Enter physical aggression, inappropriate language or gestures, insubordination, and repeated behaviors that don't stop after multiple warnings.
- Can I print referral forms and then enter them into the Google doc later? Yes. The referral forms are located in the staff notebook under the PBIS tab.
- Where is the Behavior Referral Form (Google form)? The google form is also located in the staff notebook under the PBIS tab.
- Why should I enter the behaviors that are taking place? By entering these behaviors, we are able to track high frequency behaviors, plan how to help support these students and/or help decrease these behaviors, track behaviors of students from year to year, implement PBIS lessons that target high frequency behaviors based on the data.
- Do I enter a behavior referral form for a student that has a behavior plan? Yes, but only for the behaviors listed above at this time.
