Grand Avenue Middle School Library
October 2023
LIBRARY RULES
- Library hours will be from 7:56 AM to 2:41 PM.
- Students can visit the library during their lunch periods (see more below), in between periods, and during the after-school program (see more below).
- Students are not allowed to eat or drink in the library.
- Students will sign into the library each period using an online program called LibraryTrac. They can do this at the Circulation Desk in the library.
- Students should be respectful of each other and the library space.
LUNCH PASSES
- To visit the library during their lunch periods, students should get a pass from the teachers on duty in their cafeteria at the start of the period.
- Students should finish eating their lunch before coming to the library, as they will be expected to stay in the library until the end of period bell.
- If there is a class scheduled to use the library during a lunch period, the library might not be available for students from lunch or the number of lunch passes might be reduced to accommodate both groups.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
- The After School Program is a great place to get homework done or hang out with friends in a supervised environment.
- The After School Program runs from October - May in the school library.
- The library will be open to Grand students Mondays -Thursdays from 3 PM to 5 PM.
- Students are encouraged to attend extra help sessions or wait in the cafeteria until the library reopens at 3 PM.
- Mr. Giordano is in charge of this program.
Clubs
- International Culture Club. This club meets in the school library starting at 3 PM every Friday. Ms. Azzara is the club moderator.
- Book Club. This club meets at 3 PM in Room 212 once a month. Ms. Levine and Ms. Zambori are the club moderators.
BOOK CIRCULATION
- All books are due two weeks from checkout. Students can also renew their books for an additional two weeks. If books are needed for a class project, the student should ask the librarian for an extended checkout time.
- Books can be returned to the librarian or placed in the "Book Return" box at the circulation desk.
- Students might receive notices to remind them about overdue books, but there are no late fees. However, if a book has been lost, students are asked to either buy a replacement copy or pay for the cost of the book.
LIBRARY MAKERSPACE
- There is a Makerspace cart in the library with supplies for students to use, as well as some makerspace kits. These can be used during lunch or after school.
- Although students can use the supplies to work on their own creative projects and ideas, a Makerspace activity will also be posted each month.
- Our October challenge is "FALL in love with the library makerspace! Create a 3D pumpkin using makerspace materials!"
- Students can show their creation to the librarian for a small prize. If they finish the makerspace challenge at home, they can take a picture with their creations and show the picture to the librarian to claim their prize.
