SAT/ACT Info
Students who plan to attend college need to take the SAT and/or the ACT. Most four-year colleges and some two-year college require an ACT and/or SAT score for admissions consideration. You should always research colleges you are interested in to see what they require for admissions. Although there is not a specific/required time period to take these tests, most students take the PSAT in 10th grade (to practice and prepare for the SAT), the SAT and/or ACT spring semester of their junior year, and another SAT and/or ACT fall semester of their senior year. Although we will provide information and assist with questions, GCA staff will not register you for these tests, therefore you must plan to do that on your own. Below are some links to assist you with this process and provide you further information regarding these exams.
ACT-Upcoming Test Date is Dec 9th. Do your best on the test! The next testing opportunity is February 10th and the registration deadline is January 12th.
SAT- Upcoming Test Date is Dec 2nd. Good luck! The first spring test date is March 10th and registration deadline is February 9th.

PSAT-If you took the PSAT in October, you should be receiving your scores soon (in early December). Be on the lookout for alerts from collegeboard that your scores are in. You can also log into your collegeboard account to check. Mrs. Morgan will also be following up with you regarding score interpretation soon!

Character Crusaders: Compassion
Character Crusaders:
As you know, the Counseling Department has implemented Character Education at the high school level this school year. We will have a character ed focus word each month that will be highlighted in CANDY, the newsletter, and on our website. Our Character ed words will focus on traits that have shown successful in high school, college and career. High School staff will also submit names of students showing outstanding character and we will recognize those students each month. Check out our November Character Crusaders at: http://www.gacyber.org/character-crusaders.html
This month’s character ed word is Compassion.
Compassion means: A feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. Synonyms: mercy, tenderness
A few examples of compassion could be:
· Helping an elderly neighbor bring in groceries.
· Offering a kind word to someone who looks down.
· Volunteering at a soup kitchen to help those in need.
· Spending time with a friend who has had recent struggles.
A historical figure who exhibited Integrity was Mother Teresa.
Mother Teresa always put others before herself. In 1950, she founded an organization called the Missionaries of Charity, a community of people who volunteer their time to serve to those in need: "What her workers, sisters and brothers alike, give to the poor is much more than medical care. They give unconditional love to those who are shunned by the rest of the world. Mother Teresa was a practical woman with one goal in life: to serve the poor"(Parks). Mother Teresa and the people of her organization, Missionaries of Charity, did whatever they could to not only take care of the poor, but also give them pure and true love to make them feel wanted in this world. She focused on only one idea "to serve the poorest of the poor". Mother Teresa became eventually became famous because of her works with people in poverty. In 1979, she won the Nobel Peace Prize for her acts of kindness to the people in Calcutta ("Mother Teresa"). This is an inspiration because she teaches people to care more about others rather than themselves. Also, it proves that good things will come out of helping other people. Mother Teresa was generous and considerate when it came to helping others less fortunate than her. (myhero.com)
Consider people in your own life who you feel show character. Ask yourself what you are doing on a daily basis to be an example of compassion in your personal and academic life.
