April 20-24/20-24 de abril
This week marked the first week of our new "Distance Learning" program. Your student should have received assignments from their teachers via Google Classroom or in a packet through the mail. Packets will be mailed each Friday so that they are in your student's hands on Monday to begin their learning for the week.
Students have access to their teachers during 'office times.' This is a time where students can ask questions and get support as they work through their learning activities. The times for office hours has been posted online for students to see as well as included in mailed packets. Students can use internet or phone to communicate with their teachers.
If you have any questions, please contact the French Prairie office at 971-983-3550 or contact Principal Yolanda Lopez at ylopez@woodburnsd.org or Assistant Principal Jessica Ramirez at jramirez@woodburnsd.org.

Dear Parents,
We just wanted to reach out to give you some vital information during this time of uncertainty and anxiety. As parents you might have a variety of different emotions and we just wanted to say that these are all natural. We wanted to give parents some tools to provide structure, predictability, and routine during these times. Please use these as you see fit:
Set a morning and evening check in with your child- Research shows that if you start the day with something positive you can have positivity spread throughout the day. This check-in is a way to build social and emotional awareness as well as build executive functioning and planning skills. It could look something like:
Positive start- Begin by asking your student “what are you grateful for?”. Tell a family member something you appreciate about them.
Emotional check-in- How are they feeling by either talking, drawing or pointing to a color that matches their emotion. Remember to acknowledge their feelings and normalize them.
Set a schedule- Make a plan on how the day will look like, what the responsibilities will include (with times added to each task). Remember to collaborate and ask for ideas on how to improve the plan. Use the “Calming Strategies menu” that your child might need to “reboot” during the day.
The evening debriefs should look very similar to the one in the morning. Start out with something positive, then do an emotional check-in on how their day went and finally reflect on things that can be improved for the next day.
During this period of change, there will be a lot of feelings that your child might experience. It will be important for you to let your child know that you would like to work with them in coming up with brain break strategies to help them calm their mind. Post these calming strategies somewhere as a reminder to use in any moment throughout the day. Practice these with them everyday. Here are some strategies that you might suggest:
Take a deep breath, get some fresh air, hum/sing, drink some water, go for a walk, listen to music, draw/color, talk to a friend, get a hug, journal, do positive self reflection, try some mindfulness apps, go to a calming place.
It is important for students to know the expectations and follow a routine as that is something that they are used to at school. We hope that you find these tips helpful and can utilize these in your home as we finish off the rest of the year and continue into the new school year. Stay safe and stay healthy.
Mante segura y saludable.
