QUESTION: What do we do with this cold winter weather? My hair gets frizzy in the rain, dry from the cold, and brittle from all of my hot tools, how do I keep my hair healthy?

SUE'S CLUES: Winter is a harsh season for hair and sometimes we don't realize that it's very simple to keep our hair healthy even though it may seem like a lot of work. Here are my recommendations:

1) The easiest way to keep your hair healthy is to get regular haircuts. For women I recommend every 6-8 weeks and every 4-6 weeks for men. Getting consistent haircuts is very important in helping to prevent and protect the hair from split ends. Split ends cause the hair to split up the hair shaft and this makes your hair dry, brittle, and frizzy. Look at all of the different types of split ends below and protect your hair before it breaks!

2) Get a deep conditioning treatment - A deep conditioning treatment once a week helps nourish and moisturize dry damaged hair. Conditioning is very important in keeping your hair healthy and shiny. Schedule your first deep conditioning treatment at the salon (only $25!) and our stylists will recommend products so that you can continue to maintain your hair health at home. Your hair will thank you!

3) During the winter we tend to use more hot tools (blowdryers, flat irons, curling irons, etc.) instead of wearing our hair naturally. Prior to using any hot tools, always apply a heat protectant. Our favorite is the CHI silk infusion oil - a pea-sized amount in wet or dry hair is all you need to help protect your hair from heat damage.
