Participating In Remote Meetings
Over the last few weeks, many of you may have been able to participate in a remote meeting using audio and/or video calling. While this is not a new technology, given our current situation with COVID-19, this has become the new standard for meetings. With that in mind, here are some best practices while you’re in a remote meeting:
Mute your microphone. Most applications will allow you to mute your microphone prior to joining the meeting. It’s courteous to mute your microphone and only unmute when you are speaking. It is very easy for background noise to interrupt the meeting.
Turn off devices that make sound while you’re on a meeting. You should turn off your TV and/or any radio/audio speaker/music devices while on your call.
If you are in a video call and have enabled your webcam in the call, remember that others can see you. If you need to step away from your call or walk around, consider turning off or covering your camera. Also, because you are on camera, be mindful of your facial expressions (i.e. eye rolls and negative facial expressions).
Have a slow or choppy connection? Try disabling incoming video (tips below). You may also want to consider turning off other internet connected devices (smart TV, mobile devices, video game systems, etc) that may be using up precious bandwidth needed for that important call with work.
Microsoft Teams - Click … and select “Turn off incoming video”

Educator Resources
You have probably already seen the awesome weekly K-8 grade level packets that are being produced by GISD Education & Learning (E&L). They are being made available in a variety of ways, and they are also included on the GISD Resources site. This site is a collaborative effort between E&L and TMS to consolidate some of the many web resources currently available for educators. New resources and links are regularly being added, so check back often for updates!
